And finding work-life balance, how to define what success is to you, [01:05.160 --> 01:11.520] both by Shaleen Johnson of ShaleenJohnson.com. And I'm Dan. Welcome back to OWD, where I read [01:11.520 --> 01:16.160] to you each and every day from some of the very best blogs on work and entrepreneurship, [01:16.160 --> 01:20.520] all in about 10 minutes or less. And today we picked out a couple of shorter articles, [01:20.520 --> 01:24.880] so we're able to give you a two for one. So we're going to hear twice from Shaleen Johnson [01:24.880 --> 01:34.960] as we optimize your life. Reach your full potential with a push by Shaleen Johnson of [01:34.960 --> 01:41.600] ShaleenJohnson.com. What does it mean to be pushed? When I was a little girl, I went to [01:41.600 --> 01:46.280] a swimming pool with a high-diving platform with a friend and her mom. All three of us [01:46.280 --> 01:50.920] climbed to the top of the platform. Both my friend and her mom immediately dove into the [01:50.920 --> 01:56.600] water while I just stood there, staring down, nervous and scared. Before I could muster up [01:56.600 --> 02:01.800] the courage to jump at all, they climbed up the platform to jump again. Then my friend [02:01.800 --> 02:08.040] coached me to the end of the platform. Don't look down, she said. And ever so gently, she [02:08.040 --> 02:13.160] gave me the smallest push from behind. As I fell through the air, I was freaking out and [02:13.160 --> 02:18.080] I was mad. I can't believe she just pushed me. But when I hit the water and the bubbles [02:18.080 --> 02:22.800] were all around me, I realized it was kind of fun. After that first push, I climbed back [02:22.800 --> 02:28.240] up the platform and jumped a hundred more times. Sometimes all we need is a small push, a vote [02:28.240 --> 02:32.480] of confidence from an important person in our lives. Or we just need to hear the right [02:32.480 --> 02:38.520] message at the right time. Well, listen up. You're ready to be pushed. You're ready for [02:38.520 --> 02:44.320] a push. So many of you listening to this article are ready to be pushed. Oftentimes, someone [02:44.320 --> 02:49.360] standing close to you or behind you is telling you in one way or another that you're ready for more. [02:49.360 --> 02:54.880] It's not at all uncommon to be angry at this person or feel defensive. However, sometimes you [02:54.880 --> 02:59.040] need to listen to the people around you that truly care for you, want the best for you, [02:59.040 --> 03:03.920] and want to see you reach your full potential. You need to listen to those people and the voice [03:03.920 --> 03:09.040] inside your head that push you toward greater things. Deep down, you may realize you can do more, [03:09.040 --> 03:13.920] but you make excuses or blame others for reasons why you're not moving forward and taking action. [03:14.480 --> 03:19.840] However, excuses don't move you forward. Excuses just excuse you from taking responsibility. [03:20.400 --> 03:25.600] You and only you are responsible for your progress in reaching your goals and going after the life you [03:25.600 --> 03:31.600] want. It doesn't have to be perfect. So many people remain in stagnation because they're waiting for [03:31.600 --> 03:37.280] perfect circumstances. Don't let this be you. Don't not move out of fear that you might not do it [03:37.280 --> 03:43.840] right the first time. Just move. Instead of making excuses, take responsibility and take action. You [03:43.840 --> 03:48.960] are fully capable of making a plan and following it. It may not be perfect, but at least you're [03:48.960 --> 03:54.400] moving. You may take some steps out of order, but taking any steps will keep you moving forward and [03:54.400 --> 04:03.360] growing. Take action. Thinking is not moving. You must take action. You must do. Make an appointment, [04:03.360 --> 04:08.400] schedule a phone call, sign up for a class. Do what you need to do to keep moving toward your goal. [04:08.880 --> 04:15.360] But remember, thinking is not action. Thinking on paper and making a plan is your first action step, [04:15.360 --> 04:20.160] but after that you need to move. Listen to the important people in your life and the voice inside [04:20.160 --> 04:25.440] your head that's telling you to do more. Allow yourself to be pushed. Don't worry about doing [04:25.440 --> 04:31.920] everything perfectly. Just follow your plan and do. Success is closer than you think. All you have to [04:31.920 --> 04:35.200] do is continually move forward and keep shuffling your feet. [04:39.600 --> 04:44.000] Finding Work Life Balance How To Define What Success Is To You [04:44.000 --> 04:46.720] By Shaleen Johnson of ShaleenJohnson.com [04:48.240 --> 04:53.760] You can achieve any goal, but if your life is out of balance, there's a good chance you won't feel the [04:53.760 --> 04:59.200] sense of satisfaction you thought you would. You might have all the cars, the toys, the money, [04:59.200 --> 05:04.160] the success. But if you're constantly under crazy amounts of stress and your personal life [05:04.160 --> 05:09.360] is in shambles, these things are difficult to enjoy. I talk a lot about how to do more and [05:09.360 --> 05:14.720] achieve big goals by delegating and creating systems. But one thing I do want to emphasize [05:14.720 --> 05:20.160] here is the importance of life balance. Consider using those extra hours you are freeing up to live [05:20.160 --> 05:25.840] more instead of work more. I can teach you how to get more done, work smart, and create more hours [05:25.840 --> 05:31.600] in your day. But I want to convince you to use those extra hours to live rather than add more to [05:31.600 --> 05:37.280] your plate. If you're anything like me, a type A personality, I know and understand your thought [05:37.280 --> 05:42.240] process all too well. If you can create 10 extra hours in your week by working smarter, [05:42.240 --> 05:47.520] you think, great, that's 10 more hours I can fill with more work. But I hope I can convince you to [05:47.520 --> 05:54.320] use those hours to do more living. This process starts by redefining success. What does success [05:54.400 --> 06:00.000] look like to you? It doesn't have to mean being busy, having a particular status or anything to do [06:00.000 --> 06:05.520] with your bank account. Instead, what do you want your day to look like? What do you want to feel [06:05.520 --> 06:11.040] every day? Who do you want to spend your time with? What do you want to be doing? Define success [06:11.040 --> 06:16.800] on your terms rather than letting society, your family, or other people's expectations determine [06:16.800 --> 06:21.600] what it means for you. By defining success, you'll be far less anxious and stressed, [06:21.600 --> 06:26.400] and you'll feel a greater sense of peace and happiness. When you spend those extra hours you [06:26.400 --> 06:31.920] created by working smart with the people you love, doing the things you enjoy most, you can truly [06:31.920 --> 06:36.960] enjoy your accomplishments and feel satisfied with the success you've achieved. It's all about [06:36.960 --> 06:43.120] life balance and taking control of your own destiny. Create your own definition of success [06:43.120 --> 06:52.160] and develop your life by design. You just listened to the posts titled, [06:52.160 --> 06:58.960] reach your full potential with a push, and finding work-life balance, how to define what success is [06:58.960 --> 07:06.880] to you, both by Shaleen Johnson of ShaleenJohnson.com.
