[00:00:00] This is Optimal Work Daily, Episode 1268. Three underrated tips to achieve work-life balance

[00:00:07] by Brian Tracy of BrianTracy.com. And I am Dan, I'm your host of the show and I'm with you every single day

[00:00:13] reading posts from some of the best career, business, and entrepreneurship blogs around.

[00:00:18] So without further ado, let's get right into our post today from Brian Tracy

[00:00:22] and optimize your life. Three underrated tips to achieve work-life balance

[00:00:31] by Brian Tracy of BrianTracy.com. Is finding a work-life balance something that you struggle with?

[00:00:39] The first thing to understand about work-life balance is that most people have the wrong idea

[00:00:43] of what that actually means. They think that their whole life should be balanced,

[00:00:47] that they should have a little bit of work and a little bit of play and a little bit of time

[00:00:52] on the weekends in order to improve their quality of life. When thinking about your quality of life,

[00:00:57] you have to ask yourself what do you really want to do with your life? If the answer is that you

[00:01:02] want to be really successful in your career, you have to start a little earlier, you have to work

[00:01:07] a little harder and you have to work a little later. How do you manage your time?

[00:01:13] Here's an interesting discovery. Almost all successful people work six days a week.

[00:01:19] Average people work 40 maybe even 30 hours a week. Now, aside from actual time spent at work,

[00:01:25] the real problem comes down to what you accomplish while you're at work. Most people spend 50%

[00:01:30] of their time doing non-work related activities while they're in the office. Browsing social media,

[00:01:36] checking email, taking long lunch breaks and chatting with coworkers are all examples of time-wasting

[00:01:42] behaviors. When these activities turn into habits, it becomes harder to get all of your work done

[00:01:47] in order to focus on other aspects of your life. Here's the key to achieving work-life balance.

[00:01:53] Choose to manage your time. Choosing to manage your time effectively is the starting point of

[00:01:59] overcoming previous programming and eliminating mental blocks to time management. You must decide

[00:02:05] right here and now to become an expert in time management in order to improve your quality of life.

[00:02:12] Work-life balance tips. Your aim should be to manage your time so well that people admire you

[00:02:18] and look to you as a role model for their own work habits. Here are three tips for time management

[00:02:23] that will help you achieve a work-life balance and improve your quality of life.

[00:02:28] One, use the power of positive affirmations. Positive affirmations or positive self-talk

[00:02:35] are commands that you pass from your conscious mind to your subconscious mind,

[00:02:39] that you either say out loud or to yourself with emotion and enthusiasm to drive the words into

[00:02:45] your subconscious mind, sort of like instructing yourself to follow new operating instructions.

[00:02:51] Begin by repeating positive affirmations over and over to yourself, like

[00:02:56] I am excellent at time management, I am excellent at time management, or I have a work-life balance.

[00:03:03] My favorite time management affirmation is, I use my time well, I use my time well,

[00:03:10] I use my time well. When you repeat positive affirmations over and over,

[00:03:15] they are eventually accepted by your subconscious mind and you'll find that your external behaviors

[00:03:20] will start to reflect your internal programming. Two, visualize your time management skills.

[00:03:27] Mental pictures almost immediately influence your subconscious mind. Begin to see yourself as

[00:03:32] well-organized, efficient and effective in time management. Recall and recreate memories and

[00:03:37] pictures of yourself when you are performing at your best and getting through enormous amounts of

[00:03:41] work. Through positive affirmations, you can create a picture of the coming event and see it

[00:03:46] unfolding perfectly in every respect. See yourself as calm, positive, happy, and incomplete control.

[00:03:54] See the other people doing and saying exactly what you would want them to do if the situation was

[00:03:59] perfect. Play this picture of yourself over and over again on the screen of your mind.

[00:04:05] And three, take action based on your visualizations. Now that you have visualized and concentrated

[00:04:11] on what your day and your future will look like with proper time management, it's time to put it

[00:04:16] into action. Do this by working the entire time you're at work. When you walk into the office,

[00:04:22] you should work the entire time you're there. Be pleasant and friendly to your co-workers,

[00:04:27] but get to work right away and work until you are finished. By doing this, you'll get on top of

[00:04:32] your work and will walk away feeling accomplished at the end of your day. When you don't have lingering

[00:04:37] tasks to worry about since you'll have worked as hard as you could have during your time in the

[00:04:41] office, you'll be left with plenty of quality time to spend with your friends and family after work.
