[00:00:51] open doors for the next generation, with the connectivity and skills they need to build

[00:00:55] the future of unlimited possibilities. This is Optimal Work Daily, Episode 1270. Success

[00:01:04] starts in the mind but doesn't end there by Jeff Goins of GoinsRider.com. And hey

[00:01:09] again I am Dan, I'm your host and narrator here and I'm going to keep this intro nice

[00:01:14] and short for you today. So with that let's get right to our Saturday post and optimize

[00:01:19] your life. Success starts in the mind but doesn't end there by Jeff Goins of GoinsRider.com.

[00:01:29] I've written before that actions matter more than dreams and I meant it, but there is

[00:01:37] a power to your thought life that we sometimes overlook. What if there was a way to think

[00:01:42] your way into success, a way of turning ideas into reality? Maybe it takes more than creativity.

[00:01:48] Maybe your mindset matters more than you think, but only when backed up by intentional action.

[00:01:54] And if that's true maybe there's a process to follow. It begins in the mind quote,

[00:02:00] what we think about when we are free to think about what we will, that is what we are or

[00:02:05] will soon become. End quote, AW Tozer. I cannot simply will myself to become a best-selling

[00:02:13] author or a world class entrepreneur. I have to work at it too, everyone knows that.

[00:02:19] But there's a step before any visible success that most people overlook. It goes beyond

[00:02:24] dreams and ideas and is what ultimately leads to meaningful action. You must visualize

[00:02:30] what you want before you can get it. I know this runs the risk of sounding esoteric but

[00:02:35] hear me out. So much of what matters in life involves faith. We trust friends with our deepest

[00:02:40] secrets. We put our kids to bed believing they'll wake up safe and sound in the morning.

[00:02:45] We hope a tragedy will turn out for good somehow. This is where all great endeavors begin, in

[00:02:51] the mind, with faith-filled thoughts that lead to action. The thinking initiates the dream

[00:02:57] but faith causes you to take that first uncertain step. Then you must commit quote, it was

[00:03:04] character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline

[00:03:09] that enabled us to follow through. And quote, zig-ziggler. This is the place where most

[00:03:15] people fail, myself included. We get a great idea we think about it a while and then move

[00:03:20] on, or we take the first step maybe even a few and then get distracted. And we move

[00:03:26] on or forget what we wanted in the first place. The point at which we make a difference is

[00:03:31] not during a brainstorming session. It's when we step out of the boardroom, when we decide

[00:03:35] to act and then start moving. Not recklessly, but intentionally. All great things become

[00:03:41] great when we act and not a moment before. The only way ideas take off is with a decision,

[00:03:47] a choice that costs you something. Faith without works is dead and dreams without action

[00:03:54] are just fantasies. You were meant for more than that. You were made to do great things

[00:03:59] and that means at some point you must not only decide to act but commit to a plan of action.

[00:04:05] And it gathers momentum. Quote, if I find something I like I'll chase it and see what comes

[00:04:10] out the other side. Once a song gets momentum and gets away from you, that's a good sign.

[00:04:16] End quote, Dave Matthews.

[00:04:19] Once we decide we have to move, to sign up for class, board the plane or quit that job.

[00:04:25] This is the scariest part but if the first two steps are satisfied, the third comes almost

[00:04:29] naturally. But if the laws of physics teach us anything, they should tell us that once

[00:04:34] something is set in motion, it wants to remain in motion which means that one step leads

[00:04:38] to another and another. The hard part though is inertia. Objects at rest want to stay

[00:04:44] at rest so we have to exert a lot of force and energy on those objections. Those projects

[00:04:50] that could be great if only they had a chance to succeed. So the first step is in fact

[00:04:54] just the beginning as it should be. But what's the difference between a bunch of empty

[00:04:59] starts and stuff that actually takes off? Momentum. It's the reason successful people

[00:05:04] keep succeeding and failures keep failing. How do you overcome inertia and set into motion

[00:05:10] the law of momentum? Focus intensely on one project and don't let up or move on until

[00:05:16] it takes on a life of its own. Do this enough and you'll create a whole portfolio of success.

[00:05:22] Let's put it all together. If you're like me, you need things broken down occasionally

[00:05:27] so here's a series of three steps you can practice over the next week.

[00:05:32] 1. Cultivate a habit of positive thinking. Pay attention to your thought life and look

[00:05:37] for ways you might be sabotaging yourself before you begin. Cut out of your vocabulary,

[00:05:42] both internal and external, any negative language that doesn't encourage an attitude

[00:05:47] of faith. Healthy skepticism is fine. Perpetual self-doubt is not.

[00:05:52] 2. Commit more. Let your yes be yes and your no be no. Follow through on what you say

[00:05:59] you're going to do and stop making empty promises. Teach yourself how to be a person of integrity

[00:06:05] even if it hurts and it might. And 3. Work harder than you're used to. Do what you

[00:06:11] do and do it well without cutting corners or selling yourself short. This is how discipline

[00:06:17] is built, like a muscle stretching more and more each time you exercise it. Try these

[00:06:22] habits for a week and a month. And once you've done it that long, look back at what you've

[00:06:26] accomplished. If you're pleased with the results, why not keep going?
