[00:00:04] How to Make Your Brand Stand Out by Chalene Johnson of chalenejohnson.com.
[00:00:09] And I'm Dan.

[00:00:14] help you optimize your business life.

[00:00:25] to share your ideas.
[00:00:26] That's OLDpodcast.com.
[00:00:29] And now let's get right to our post from Chalene as we optimize your life.
[00:00:37] How to Make Your Brand Stand Out by Chalene Johnson of chalenejohnson.com.
[00:00:44] Stand out is something a stage mom would shout from the wings
[00:00:48] as her child takes the stage.
[00:00:50] The aspiring young performer probably has an idea on just how to do just that too.
[00:00:55] Sing louder, dance bigger or act funnier.
[00:00:59] But in growing your business, mom isn't there to offer such wisdom.
[00:01:02] Besides, even if she were, how would you know how to stand out?
[00:01:06] Whether your biz is in its infancy stages, idea stages, or you just
[00:01:11] want to take it to the next level, you have to consider brand.
[00:01:14] And yes, one of the things I find most people struggle with is what
[00:01:17] actually makes their brand stand out.
[00:01:20] Because let's be honest, everything's been done or so it feels.
[00:01:24] When we think of brands or personalities that stand out, we can't help but first
[00:01:29] think of people who are outrageously different.
[00:01:32] Honestly though, it's almost a shame we keep perpetuating this scary idea.
[00:01:36] The fact of the matter is what makes you unique is a collection of the
[00:01:40] things that make you, you all stacked together, many of these unique qualities
[00:01:44] in and of themselves aren't that special.
[00:01:47] It's when they're combined all together that people are attracted to you.
[00:01:50] What we have to do is figure out which of your collective pieces are the things
[00:01:53] you want to emphasize and broadcast.
[00:01:56] There's a lot of important pieces to you and we can't highlight all of them.
[00:01:59] So what we're going to do now is figure out the ones that matter most.
[00:02:03] So here are three questions to help you figure out how to stand out the most.
[00:02:08] How to stand out question one, what personality traits do you have that you
[00:02:12] also find attractive in other people?
[00:02:15] For me, sense of humor, absolutely a must.
[00:02:18] You don't have to be funny, but you have to get funny, know how to laugh at a good
[00:02:22] joke and appreciate sarcasm because I do.
[00:02:25] If you look for the personality traits you share with others and then
[00:02:28] attract those particular types of customers, they're going to find you
[00:02:32] more familiar and you're going to have a whole lot more fun being you.
[00:02:36] How to stand out question two, what is your voice, your language, your tone?
[00:02:42] These need to be consistent across all of your platforms.
[00:02:46] Obviously we're not the same person every single day, every single hour.
[00:02:49] Most of us are multifaceted, but in general, there are words
[00:02:53] you will use and words you won't.
[00:02:55] You've heard me on my podcasts.
[00:02:57] I'll slip in an occasional four letter word, but there are just certain words
[00:03:00] I'm not dropping like that four letter word.
[00:03:04] It's just not central to who I am.
[00:03:06] That said, I'm not offended when other people use them.
[00:03:09] Which words will you and will you not use?
[00:03:12] Here's a concrete example.
[00:03:14] The 131 method is a nutritional program that helps people get healthy from the
[00:03:18] inside out by healing their gut health, balancing their hormones
[00:03:21] and helping people to lose weight.
[00:03:23] The brand voice needs to have a sense of humor and forgiveness.
[00:03:27] We use language in our books, lectures, blogs, and emails that is forgiving.
[00:03:32] Instead of saying you must, or you need to, we use terms like we
[00:03:36] suggest, or you might consider.
[00:03:39] We at 131 want to use language that people can relate to so that it feels like
[00:03:43] your really well-informed girlfriend is talking to you versus some guy with two
[00:03:47] beakers standing in the university laboratory.
[00:03:50] How to stand out question three, what is your life story?
[00:03:55] This doesn't mean that you've been in a terrible car crash or
[00:03:57] you've overcome cancer, et cetera.
[00:03:59] I think people believe sometimes that their story is supposed to be so
[00:04:02] profound and earth shattering that no one's ever heard a story like it before.
[00:04:07] I'm just trying to illustrate that you've made sense of the journey you've
[00:04:10] been on and in that story is something other people can relate to whether you
[00:04:15] overcame shyness or found your voice, survived childhood abuse, came out
[00:04:19] of the closet or got healthy.
[00:04:21] Whatever it is, you have a story that is unique.
[00:04:25] Again, it doesn't have to be the kind of story that ends up on the
[00:04:27] cover of people magazine, just how you've made sense of the things
[00:04:30] that have happened to you.
[00:04:32] Or as I like to say, the things that have happened for you.
[00:04:39] You just listened to the post titled how to make your brand stand out by
