[00:00:59] Three powerful ways to get your next email opened by Matt Wolff of evergreenprofits.com.

[00:01:06] Let's have a discussion about how to increase the chances of getting your next email opened.

[00:01:11] Whether you're sending out a broadcast or are cold pitching a high-end client,

[00:01:15] there's no point in discussing how to write a great email that converts

[00:01:18] if you don't know how to get your emails opened in the first place.

[00:01:21] Not to mention, there's no point in building an email list

[00:01:24] if you're not going to mail them often enough for them to remember who you are.

[00:01:28] What we've noticed from mailing our own list over the years

[00:01:31] is that there are really three types of email subject lines that work for us.

[00:01:35] We use these as templates and try to pick one of the three every single time.

[00:01:40] About every three months or so, we sit down and really analyze all of the emails that we've sent out.

[00:01:45] We highly recommend that everyone do this every so often

[00:01:48] so you don't have to constantly reinvent the wheel.

[00:01:50] You can simply reuse what's worked in the past.

[00:01:53] We'll get to the three templates that we use in a bit,

[00:01:56] but first we wanted to break down our top 50 email subject lines over the past year or so.

[00:02:01] In the table that's included in this post,

[00:02:03] we organized all of our best-performing subject lines

[00:02:06] and sorted them by the highest open rate.

[00:02:08] The goal of a subject line, of course, is to get people to open your emails.

[00:02:12] Once you do that, then you focus on getting people to read and click the link in your email.

[00:02:17] If you can master that combination, then you'll be spending half of your day driving to the bank to cash checks

[00:02:22] or obsessing over looking at the direct deposits in your account.

[00:02:26] We're usually pretty happy if we can achieve a 20% open rate or better.

[00:02:31] You'll notice that we basically filtered out any emails that didn't at least have that 20% open rate.

[00:02:36] When we make these lists, the idea is to do the following.

[00:02:40] Analyze our subject lines and identify patterns.

[00:02:43] Try to see what words, phrases, or common theme we can uncover that gave us great results in the past.

[00:02:49] From there, we have great data and a starting point for all future emails.

[00:02:54] Sometimes we completely swipe an exact subject line that we used in the past

[00:02:58] and then write a brand new email around it to fit because we can almost guarantee that email will be opened.

[00:03:05] Top 50 Performing Subject Lines to Get Your Next Email Opened

[00:03:09] You can see our top performing subject lines in this post.

[00:03:12] Remember, there is no guarantee that if you use these same subject lines that you get the same or similar results.

[00:03:19] You'll always need to test and modify after you start seeing your own trends.

[00:03:23] What does this list actually tell us?

[00:03:26] 1. Well, first of all, the first five emails were actually sent to customers of the Evergreen Profits letter,

[00:03:32] proving that you're probably not going to get a more responsive list than a buyer's list.

[00:03:36] We debated on removing those from the list but ultimately decided to leave them

[00:03:41] because it does show the power and engagement that comes from having a list of customers that have spent money with you.

[00:03:46] 2. After analyzing the data, we found that there are really three types of emails

[00:03:51] that seemed to work over and over again for us.

[00:03:54] There are definitely some outliers and random others that led to high email open rates,

[00:03:59] but there were really just three that seemed to be consistent and reliable for us.

[00:04:03] Our Top 3 Formulas to Get Your Next Email Opened

[00:04:07] If you're wondering what our top email formulas are for getting emails opened, here they are.

[00:04:13] 1. The Ambiguous Subject Line

[00:04:16] These are the subject lines that make people think,

[00:04:19] what the hell are they talking about?

[00:04:20] People want to open these just because they want to figure out what we're talking about in the subject line.

[00:04:25] Examples include,

[00:04:27] It's time to treat yourself,

[00:04:28] and

[00:04:28] This was a bit misleading.

[00:04:31] 2. Make the offer in the subject

[00:04:33] Surprisingly, telling people that you're making them an offer right in the subject line seems to work really well.

[00:04:39] Promoting a discount and reminding people of the scarcity draws a ton of attention.

[00:04:43] Examples include,

[00:04:44] Here's 20% off the Evergreen Profit Letter this weekend only,

[00:04:47] And,

[00:04:48] A little over 48 hours left for Thrivecart.

[00:04:51] It's clear what product we're promoting and why they should pay attention,

[00:04:55] and it works extremely well.

[00:04:57] 3. The How-To Subject Line

[00:04:59] People love to learn new tricks.

[00:05:01] Whenever we start an email with How-to X,

[00:05:04] we get a spike in opens.

[00:05:05] You'll see a ton of examples of these on our list.

[00:05:09] Again, it's important to note that these are what seem to consistently work for us over and over again when tracking what led our emails to be open.

[00:05:16] Because they keep working, we keep using them.

[00:05:18] They may not work as well for you and your market.

[00:05:21] The point here is to,

[00:05:23] A, give you some subject lines that you can swipe, tweak, and test to your own list,

[00:05:27] and, B, describe the process that we use to pull out what normally works for us

[00:05:32] so that we can keep doing it over and over again.

[00:05:34] Once you've mastered the art of subject line writing,

[00:05:37] you're probably going to want to funnel more people into your sales funnel.
