[00:01:00] This is Optimal Work Daily. Tips for Success by Chalene Johnson of ShaleenJohnson.com. Everyone's got those days where they just can't seem to find motivation. Maybe you aren't looking forward to your workout or have a day filled with meetings, or maybe you woke up feeling extra tired and even simple tasks seem too large. These tips will work in any area, from fitness to family, and are easy to apply to any lifestyle. 1. Set yourself up for success.

[00:01:30] Many people don't succeed or can't find motivation because they've set their goals too high for that day. You know the feeling when you write out a to-do list and then feel like you didn't do anything just because you didn't complete it? That's what I mean by setting yourself up. If you make a goal of running 5 miles and haven't run 1 mile, you're going to lack motivation when the time comes to run those 5. Setting yourself up for success means setting goals that are attainable. When you're writing out that to-do list, only write in things that you think you can accomplish in your day or your time frame.

[00:02:00] Running 5 miles is a great goal, but starting more simply by doing a half mile without stopping first will help build confidence to tackle all 5. Another way to set yourself up for success is to look at how you structure your day and what your daily schedule looks like. I know it's difficult to say no to events and activities sometimes, but make sure you're scheduling items that are the most important to you first. If running is a goal you want to accomplish, don't push it out of your schedule because your friends want to do dinner or your office needs someone to work late.

[00:02:30] It's okay to say no, and you should when the activity or event you're saying yes to may not align with your personal values. If you value yourself by putting your goals first, you'll start to better yourself. In this shift, you'll start making better decisions for you and your family, and we'll see that your choices align with your goals and values. 2. Exercise It might seem a little strange that exercise is a motivation tip, especially when you might be lacking motivation in this area,

[00:02:59] but exercise is very important for your mood. If you get the blood flowing at least 5 times a week, you'll see an increase in your productivity, your mood, and your energy. When I say moving, I mean something moderately active that gets your heart rate up. This could be power walking or active house cleaning, something physical but not over the top. If you make it a habit of working out 5 to 7 times a week, you will start to see a difference in yourself, and will probably start getting more done throughout the day.

[00:03:27] And 3. Accountability Holding yourself accountable can be difficult, especially if you're trying to accomplish a goal on your own. That's why it's important to identify your main goal, and then break it down into smaller goals. Taking a large goal, like running a marathon, and breaking it into 5 smaller goals, will help you focus your efforts, and will help build confidence to reach that large goal. This works for any goal, like opening a business, trying to increase sales, or wanting to run your household smoother.

[00:03:56] Another way to increase accountability is to get a friend or family member to help you. This can be as simple as just telling them what you want to accomplish, and why. If you want to stay off social media, for example, give your child or spouse permission to call you out if they see you on Facebook, or even allow them to take the computer away if it's too distracting. Enlisting someone you trust to help you stay on task and accountable will remind you of your goal, and why it's important.

[00:04:24] Setting goals for your business that scare you, by Chalene Johnson of shaleenjohnson.com In order to move forward with your business, you have to push the boundaries. And this means doing things that scare you. When you first started your business, the idea of running your own company or being your own boss was probably scary. But you worked through it. Now it's time to evaluate some areas that may scare you and set goals to work through them. 1. Investing in something You have to invest in your business

[00:04:53] in order to move forward. And this means directly putting money into your business, but also making purchases or doing things that will help you build your brand. Business tools and resources that may be on the border of scary could include attending a seminar or conference, building a website, or finally purchasing that iPhone your company needs. What do you need to make money? It's time to take the step and invest in something that will help you grow your brand from a website, new computer, or attending a seminar.

[00:05:22] 2. Committing to something that will push you forward If you have to choose only one activity to make money with your business, what would it be? This activity makes a big difference for you and your business, and you need to be putting time into it. An example could be video teaching, making videos that teach the audience something. I tend to get a lot of traffic with this, so I set a goal for myself of spending one hour per day on video teaching. You should set a goal similar to this, so you will always be putting effort into the biggest activity you have going for you.

[00:05:52] 3. Giving up something You're running your own business. Chances are, you're doing something that takes up way too much time and isn't helping the business very much. For me, that was editing my own videos. I thought I was the only one who knew what I wanted, so I spent hours editing. I realized I could delegate this to someone else who had more experience, could do it more quickly than I could, and could actually get the details I wanted. You don't have to give up this task completely, but evaluate how much time you're spending on social media, for example,

[00:06:22] and see where you can cut back or delegate. 4. Setting a finance goal Setting a monetary goal can be scary because you might not reach it, but setting a goal gives you the push you need to at least try and attain it. This finance goal should be big enough that you're shy about sharing the amount with others, but not too large that you know you won't reach it. It's a personal goal you set for yourself, so write it down and see how you do. 5. Meeting like-minded people Meeting people can be scary,

[00:06:52] but talking with other business people can be just what you need to get new ideas, solidify those ideas you have, and implement things you've been waiting on. Get a small group of people together or join a group and share your goals with them. This will be a place of support and accountability and may be the push you needed to reach the next level with your brand. You just listened to the posts titled Tips for Success and
