[00:01:58] kind of like an ongoing audiobook.
[00:02:00] And with that, let's get right to today's post as we optimize your life.
[00:02:09] Eating Healthy When Traveling or On The Go by Vicki Cook and Amy Blacklock of womenwhomoney.com
[00:02:16] A big struggle many people face while traveling is eating healthy foods.
[00:02:21] While enjoying delicious tasting food is often a big part of vacations,
[00:02:25] it's wise to choose the healthiest food options available for On The Go eating during travel times.
[00:02:30] You want to feel good and enjoy your trip, not endure an upset stomach and gain 10 pounds.
[00:02:36] Because making healthy eating choices on the road or at the airport can be a real challenge,
[00:02:42] quick and convenient foods often end up taking the place of healthier body fuel
[00:02:47] when you're on the go, go, go.
[00:02:49] But these less than ideal food choices can put you on the hamster wheel
[00:02:52] of experiencing low energy, weight gain and potential health problems.
[00:02:57] But it doesn't have to be that way.
[00:02:59] You don't have to be hopelessly tied to your travel schedule
[00:03:02] and resort to fast food or processed foods to get you through these hectic times.
[00:03:07] It is possible to eat healthy foods even with a jam-packed itinerary.
[00:03:12] It just requires a little bit of pre-planning to ensure success.
[00:03:15] You'll feel better, have more energy for your vacation and travel activities
[00:03:19] and your waistline will thank you too.
[00:03:22] Eating healthy when you're not home.
[00:03:25] Take the time to plan a little and you can relax knowing that you won't be derailing
[00:03:29] your healthy living efforts by spending money on and consuming empty calories
[00:03:34] that only make you hungry again a short time later or worse,
[00:03:38] making you feel unwell or tired.
[00:03:41] Without planning, it's easy to fall into the trap of swinging through
[00:03:44] the closest drive-through when you or your family are hungry.
[00:03:48] Don't wait until you're starving to make food choices
[00:03:50] as this almost always leads to bad decisions.
[00:03:54] Instead, plan ahead so you don't have to rely on your willpower alone to stay on track.
[00:04:00] Road Trips
[00:04:01] Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you should take a total hiatus
[00:04:05] from your health and money-saving goals.
[00:04:07] You can still live a healthy lifestyle and save money on road trips
[00:04:11] by packing healthy options to eat in the car.
[00:04:14] Pack easy to carry healthy food and snacks
[00:04:17] and keep them in a purse, bag or backpack.
[00:04:20] This way you always have healthy choices right at your fingertips.
[00:04:24] You can pack a cooler to keep handy too
[00:04:26] so you have easy access to cold snacks and drinks while on the road.
[00:04:30] Plan on stopping at parks or rest areas along your route
[00:04:33] and pack a nutritious picnic lunch or dinner
[00:04:36] to enjoy before you continue on the next leg of your trip.
[00:04:39] Make the most of technology too.
[00:04:42] Almost everyone has a smartphone with them at any given time.
[00:04:46] You can use this readily available technology to your advantage.
[00:04:49] Keep your food choices healthy when you're on the go
[00:04:52] by utilizing apps that make healthy living easier.
[00:04:56] Airports
[00:04:57] Even though you can't pack liquids in your carry-on bag,
[00:05:00] there are still plenty of options for what you can bring.
[00:05:03] You can pack wrapped whole food snack bars,
[00:05:06] nuts, seeds or even pieces of fruit
[00:05:09] in your personal items bag.
[00:05:10] With a little creative planning,
[00:05:12] you can keep your nutrition on track
[00:05:14] and save yourself a bundle of money
[00:05:16] you would have otherwise spent on pricey
[00:05:18] and often unhealthy airport foods and snacks.
[00:05:22] Nutritious foods that are easy to pack.
[00:05:25] The following items are all easy to prepare
[00:05:27] and convenient to take on the go.
[00:05:30] Experiment and find out which snacks
[00:05:32] best fit your family's preference and lifestyle.
[00:05:34] Mix and match options to see what works for you.
[00:05:38] Be sure to keep any perishable foods in a cooler
[00:05:40] or use an ice pack.
[00:05:42] Here are some ideas.
[00:05:44] Sandwiches or wraps.
[00:05:45] String cheese or cheese cubes.
[00:05:48] High quality beef jerky.
[00:05:50] Cut up rotisserie chicken.
[00:05:52] Hard boiled eggs.

[00:06:47] And I'll be right back with my commentary.
[00:06:49] We're driven by the search for better,
[00:06:52] but when it comes to hiring,
[00:06:53] the best way to search for a candidate
[00:06:55] isn't to search at all.
[00:06:57] Don't search, match with Indeed.
[00:07:00] Indeed is your matching and hiring platform
[00:07:02] with over 350 million global monthly visitors
[00:07:06] and a matching engine
[00:07:07] that helps you find quality candidates fast.
[00:07:10] Ditch the busy work.
[00:07:11] Use Indeed for scheduling, screening and messaging.
[00:07:15] 93% of employers agree
[00:07:17] Indeed delivers the highest quality matches
[00:07:20] compared to other job sites.
[00:07:22] One of the things I love about Indeed
[00:07:23] is that it filters out incompatible applicants.
[00:07:26] So when you're hiring, the process is much faster
[00:07:29] and you only have to consider applicants
[00:07:31] that are already likely to be a great fit.

[00:07:57] You need Indeed.
[00:08:00] Dr. Neal here for my commentary.
[00:08:02] Whenever I travel, I definitely prepack snacks.
[00:08:06] I may not prepack a whole meal, but definitely snacks.
[00:08:10] Some of my favorite go-to travel foods
[00:08:12] are bananas for shorter trips, of course,
[00:08:15] trail mix and snack bars.
[00:08:18] I make the trail mix myself
[00:08:19] and like to add unsalted walnuts, almonds,
[00:08:22] cashews and pistachios along with raisins
[00:08:25] and dried mango for that little bit of sweetness.
[00:08:28] It's great because I don't need to keep these items cool.
[00:08:31] They're basically non-perishable
[00:08:33] and I can take them anywhere.
[00:08:35] I can take them anywhere
[00:08:36] because they're so light and portable.
[00:08:38] It's not like you're carrying a whole cooler
[00:08:40] on your back while you're running through the airport.
[00:08:43] So yes, I'm a huge fan of pre-planning
[00:08:45] and pre-packing when it comes to traveling.
[00:08:48] All right, that'll do it for another edition
[00:08:50] of Optimal Health Daily.
[00:08:51] Thank you so much for being here.
[00:08:53] I hope you have a great rest of your day
[00:08:55] and I'll see you back here tomorrow with another post
[00:08:57] and where your optimal life awaits.
