[00:01:07] [SPEAKER_00]: I like to share a little bit of inspiration with you. That's because for many of us,
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Wednesday symbolizes the middle of the work week and we may need that little
[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: extra inspiration to get through the next couple of days. So with that, here we go.

[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Now before I get to it, a quick reminder. Today's post is a bit longer than what I typically narrate,
[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: so whenever that happens, I'll read the first half today and then finish it up for you tomorrow.

[00:01:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Are Weight Loss Shakes the Key to Lasting Weight Loss?

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Weight Loss Shakes have been around for decades and they're not going anywhere.
[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: They're everywhere, places like your local GNC, supermarket, health food store and so on.
[00:02:11] [SPEAKER_00]: They're in traditional magazines, on TV, and all over social media outlets like
[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Facebook, Instagram, X, Pinterest and so on. Weight Loss Shakes and their allure.
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: These shakes come with a promise to make you slimmer without needing to put forth much effort.
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: No thinking, no exercising, just drink the shake down and you'll magically lose weight.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of the marketing messages I've seen on bottles are
[00:02:39] [SPEAKER_00]: the lean shake, lean shake burn, super lean meal replacement, slender blend.
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And without even looking at the ingredients, the shiny label leads us to believe
[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_00]: these shakes promote weight loss. It's interesting because we often drink these
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: without much concern for what's actually in them. The same can be said for diet pills.
[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Most people see the promise and will instantly take them,
[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: even without looking at the label and doing some research on the ingredients.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_00]: At the end of the day, we want the results promised on the label and we're less concerned about what's
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_00]: actually in them or how and if they actually work. Weight loss shakes promise results
[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_00]: coupled with convenience. If you could magically lose weight without having to learn anything
[00:03:25] [SPEAKER_00]: and only adjust your eating habits slightly, would you do it?
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Almost everyone would say yes, and that's why Slim Fast shakes have been in business
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: for 40 years. They offer a simple solution to what seems to be a complex problem.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Their most popular message is to replace two meals with a Slim Fast shake.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Indulge in three snacks to curb hunger and eat your favorite 500 calorie meal for dinner.
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's do the math. An average Slim Fast shake will have around 200 calories
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_00]: after you add 8 ounces of skim milk to the mix, as per their directions.
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: The total macronutrients look like this. 10 grams of protein, 30 grams of carbs,
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: and 3 and a half grams of fat. So, two meals of Slim Fast shakes equals 400 calories.
[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Then you choose three of their snacks, which are 100 calories each.
[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Then you have a 500 calorie meal for dinner.
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: 400 calories, or two shakes worth, plus 300 calories for the three snacks,
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_00]: plus 500 calories for the dinner meal equals 1200 calories.
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: 1200 calories is likely 2 thirds to 1 half of what's needed for a small female identified
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: at birth who's exercising regularly. So if you follow the Slim Fast plan,
[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: it'll work for sure. But not because there's anything special in the shakes.
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It's because by default, it's limiting you to 1200 calories per day,
[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_00]: and half of the day's calories are sure to be subpar because they're coming from a low quality
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_00]: powder of mostly carbohydrates. Any protein is probably coming from the milk.
[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_00]: It's just food and cheap food at that. This isn't a jab at Slim Fast, though I should
[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_00]: add that if you want to lose weight safely, actually maintain your muscle and lose mostly
[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_00]: fat, and not lose muscle, there are better methods.
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_00]: When you look at a Slim Fast label, you'll see a bunch of ingredients that you wouldn't normally
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: eat if you were eating whole foods. We have a bunch of gums, carrageenan,
[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_00]: cellulose, and synthetic vitamins and minerals. Now I'm not saying that this is bad to have
[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: in a pinch, but if you make this a dietary staple, I fear you'd be missing out on
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: ample amounts of nutrients over time. And not only that, for the price,
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: it will actually become quite expensive if you ever tried to get a reasonable amount of calories from
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_00]: it. So instead of limiting your intake of real whole food to a certain caloric goal daily,
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_00]: you're having subpar food in place of something that would be healthier for you.
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_00]: News Flash, Nothing You Can Eat Actually Burns Fat
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Slim Fast and Other Weight Loss Shakes are nothing more than food,
[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_00]: and as I've mentioned before, no fat burning foods actually exist. Fat loss happens by creating a
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_00]: caloric deficit, exercising regularly, and managing your caloric intake over time.
[00:06:23] [SPEAKER_00]: If a friend is trying to sell it to you, think twice. A very common occurrence for many people
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: trying to lose weight or get into better shape is for a friend to reveal an incredible
[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_00]: weight loss shake or supplement they've been using and reveal how it's helped them lose weight,
[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_00]: feel better, and get into shape. Some of the popular shakes come from the following companies.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_00]: nutrition recommendations, you'll often find that it's basically a low calorie diet with
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: an expensive shake tacked onto it. In fact, most diets are basically low calorie diets in disguise.
[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_00]: This is because, as JC said, there's no magic fat burning quality or weight loss quality in foods.
[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Foods are designed to provide us with calories, not remove them. Instead, these fads are basically
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_00]: about calorie reduction and that's what real weight loss is about. But before I go any further
