[00:00:27] This is Optimal Health Daily. How to Discover Your Why? The Secret Step Most People Miss by Andy Thueson of andythueson.com. And I'm Dr. Neal, your very own personal narrator.

[00:00:39] Hey there, happy Saturday and welcome back to Optimal Health Daily or OHD, where I act as your narrator of popular health and fitness blogs and always with a bit of my commentary at the end. And don't forget, we have a bunch of shows covering different topics.

[00:00:54] Just search for Optimal Living Daily in any podcast app to find them. And with that, let's get right to it and start optimizing your life.

[00:01:07] How to Discover Your Why? The Secret Step Most People Miss by Andy Thueson of andythueson.com.

[00:01:15] If you struggle with sticking to any weight loss plan over an extended amount of time, then you are absolutely and resoundingly not alone.

[00:01:23] When it comes to setting weight loss goals, most of us start strong and then find ourselves fizzling out as the months drudge on.

[00:01:31] The allure of losing weight and looking good begins to fizzle out over time.

[00:01:36] But why? Why does sticking to a weight loss and fitness plan undoubtedly fail?

[00:01:41] I propose that we often don't measure our real reasons strongly enough.

[00:01:47] So, let's sit down and chat and work it out to help you discover your why.

[00:01:53] A why strong enough to help you stay motivated and focused throughout your weight loss journey.

[00:01:59] Zig Ziglar once said, quote,

[00:02:01] We don't pay the price for good health. We enjoy the price of good health.

[00:02:06] End quote.

[00:02:08] This quote is so accurate because working out and eating right is about so much more than vanity.

[00:02:15] It's about living a healthier and happier life.

[00:02:18] Let that sink in.

[00:02:20] Most of us can all begrudgingly admit that the motivation when we first start is based on a number on the scale,

[00:02:27] or a certain size we wish to be, or how we want to look in a swimsuit.

[00:02:32] That type of reason will only get you so far.

[00:02:36] Yes, we are all vain and driven by wanting to look good and be more attractive.

[00:02:41] We wouldn't be human if this didn't push us.

[00:02:44] But to stay motivated, we need to dig deeper and reflect more on what working out and eating healthy

[00:02:50] will provide for us in the long run.

[00:02:53] Getting clear on this will make downing those celery sticks and logging miles on the dreadmill worth it.

[00:02:59] It will keep you going long past when you made the initial goal and hope for the rest of your life.

[00:03:06] Everyone has a reason to live a healthier, longer life.

[00:03:09] What's yours?

[00:03:11] So the question you need to reflect on and find an answer for is this.

[00:03:16] Who or what motivates you to live a healthier, longer life?

[00:03:21] This nitty-gritty question is a powerful tool to help you discover your why.

[00:03:25] By answering this rather important question, we give power to our goals.

[00:03:30] When we put our health and fitness goals in the perspective of what we live for,

[00:03:35] sleeping in and eating that second helping of deep-fried goodness begins to lose its luster

[00:03:40] compared to living healthy for the people we care about, for the moments in life that matter most.

[00:03:46] Because in reality, it's not just our waistline that suffers.

[00:03:49] Our quality of life and our longevity pay the price when we give in to overeating,

[00:03:55] inactivity, and unhealthy living.

[00:03:58] So sit down and spend some real time to discover your why.

[00:04:02] Why do you want to lose weight?

[00:04:04] Want to know what motivates me to set my alarm clock and get out of bed every morning?

[00:04:08] It's the crazy bunch of people I call family.

[00:04:11] I cannot give them my best if I am not my healthiest.

[00:04:14] I want to live long enough to see their cute babies have babies.

[00:04:18] I want to be able to play with them and not be too tired.

[00:04:21] I want to set an example of healthy living for them

[00:04:25] so that they also want to eat healthy and exercise to live healthy long lives.

[00:04:31] The more parents and caregivers that make healthy living a priority,

[00:04:35] the healthier our future will be.

[00:04:37] Parents and caregivers united can make a real change

[00:04:40] because we all know parents and caregivers are the ones with the real power to help make changes.

[00:04:46] So, discover your why.

[00:04:48] It will give you more power and direction to your goals.

[00:04:52] Once you've discovered it, write it down.

[00:04:55] Writing out your goals physically with pen and paper

[00:04:58] is another way to help you stay motivated and on track.

[00:05:05] You just listened to the post titled

[00:05:07] How to Discover Your Why?

[00:05:09] The Secret Step Most People Miss

[00:05:11] by Andy Thuison of andythuison.com

[00:05:14] And I'll be right back with my commentary.

[00:05:16] Dr. Neil here for my commentary.

[00:05:19] I'm a huge fan of discovering your why.

[00:05:21] I mean, you probably figured as much

[00:05:24] if you've ever listened to the first Q&A episode of the month.

[00:05:27] That's when I talk about my background and credentials,

[00:05:29] but I also share my why for doing this podcast

[00:05:32] and for my career, basically.

[00:05:35] So, during that first Q&A episode of the month,

[00:05:37] it's that part when I talk about

[00:05:39] how I was diagnosed with a chronic disease when I was 19

[00:05:42] and how that experience made me want to help others

[00:05:44] prevent chronic diseases

[00:05:46] so that they don't have to go through what I went through.

[00:05:49] That's my why.

[00:05:50] And whenever I start to feel overwhelmed with my work,

[00:05:53] I go back to my why.

[00:05:55] And it always gets me back on track.

[00:05:58] Your why doesn't have to be like mine.

[00:06:00] And it can change over time.

[00:06:02] But, as soon as you can,

[00:06:04] think about what Andy, today's author,

[00:06:07] discussed about finding your why,

[00:06:10] then write it down

[00:06:11] and refer back to it when things start to feel difficult.

[00:06:14] I promise you'll find it'll help you get back on track.

[00:06:18] All right, that'll do it for today.

[00:06:20] I hope you're having a great weekend

[00:06:22] if you're listening in real time.

[00:06:23] And I'll see you back here tomorrow

[00:06:25] where your optimal life awaits.

[00:06:27] I hope you're having a great weekend.

[00:06:27] I hope you're having a great weekend.

[00:06:27] So thank you so much for taking a break.

[00:06:27] Bye.
