Episode 2993:

Roger Lawson challenges readers to identify and push through the personal bottlenecks that stall their growth, drawing inspiration from the concept of "limit breaks" in Final Fantasy 7. Michael Boyle underscores the urgency of taking control of physical health early in life, warning that most people begin to deteriorate far before they realize it, and that exercise, not medication, is the real solution.

Quotes to ponder:

"We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training."

"This is your limit. Regardless of where you are in life, there is always something holding you back from moving forward, and until you can identify and correct it, progress will come to a screeching halt."

“Most people are dead at thirty-five, they just walk around for another thirty to forty more years.”

It starts with a swipe. Tinder.

This is Optimal Health Daily.

[00:00:57] What's your limit break? By Roger Lawson. And guest post. Most people are dead at 35. By Michael Boyle. Both with rogelawfitness.com. And I'm Dr. Neil, your host and narrator. Hey there, welcome to another Tuesday edition of Optimal Health Daily. This is just one of a bunch of podcasts where we read to you from blogs for free so that you don't have to read them yourself. On Fridays, I do something a little different. That's where I answer your questions.

[00:01:26] Now, to check out our other shows, just search for Optimal Living Daily wherever you're hearing this. Now today, I often have two posts when each of them are a bit on the shorter side. And I want to make sure you get enough of the content you expect from this show every day. So, with that, let's get right to today's two posts and start optimizing your life.

[00:01:52] What's your limit break? By Roger Lawson of rogelawfitness.com. Quote, We do not rise to the level of our expectations. We fall to the level of our training. Archulakis You're riding the fastest, safest train ever built. And your ride is going smoothly. All of a sudden, you go from reading the latest Dan Brown novel to being tossed around the cabin like nobody's business. Oof, what happened?

[00:02:21] Well, unbeknownst to you, the rail that you were riding was experiencing a technical engineering gap between conception and implementation. Also known as, Someone forgot to finish constructing it. In this situation, it didn't matter how awesome the train that you were riding was. It could have been powered by baby farts and unicorn magic for all I care. because you would have run to the same problem. Lack of rail equals the train stops moving forward. Under its own power, at least.

[00:02:50] This is your limit. Regardless of where you are in life, there is always something holding you back from moving forward. And until you can identify and correct it, progress will come to a screeching halt. I had a conversation with someone recently who had no problem sticking to a diet during the week. But once the weekend hit, all bets were off, and the progress that they worked so hard to make over the last several days was completely wiped out. What was my advice to him?

[00:03:18] Assemble all the resources that he could possibly muster to make it from Friday evening to Monday morning. If he can simply come up with strategies enabling himself to power through the wicked weekend, you know, the bottleneck that he needs to pass through if he wants to make any real progress towards his goals, then it's smooth sailing from that point on. This is his limit break, and it applies to everything. One of my favorite video games of all time, Final Fantasy VII, highlights this term perfectly.

[00:03:48] After taking enough damage at a point where defeat seems inevitable, the character is able to perform a powerful attack of desperation which turns the tide of battle in his favor. The best part is that we too can harness the power of limit breaks in our everyday life. The first step is to identify the point or points that always seem to trip us up. Then, do whatever it takes to keep our feet firmly planted into the ground in order to pass those points. Need knowledge?

[00:04:18] Acquire it. Need motivation? Find it. Need help? Seek it. Guest post. Most people are dead at 35. A few years ago, I listened to a Paul Cech nutrition CD, and Cech used the following statement from a nutritionist. Quote, Most people are dead at 35. They just walk around for another 30 to 40 more years.

[00:04:49] End quote. The quote was intended to apply to most adults from a nutritional standpoint. I find the point both amusing and accurate from a physical standpoint also. By 35, most of the damage is done, and without an intensive program of exercise, the damage is difficult to reverse. The truth is that quality of life begins to deteriorate after 30 for many people due to lack of exercise. Activities that were once simple and normal become increasingly difficult.

[00:05:19] The sad part is that the deterioration doesn't become readily apparent until we reach our 50s or 60s, and at this point, it gets much harder to change. The baby boomers are fueling the personal training business in an attempt to improve not only the length of their lives, but the quality. However, the time to fight back is right now. Don't wait until you're 50 and try and undo 20 years of damage. One of my favorite sayings is, quote, the best time to plant a tree

[00:05:48] was three years ago. The next best time is today. End quote. Don't wait another day to begin an exercise program. Start today. The truth is that obesity, neck pain, back pain, and so many of the debilitating conditions that we suffer from in adulthood are entirely preventable, but the earlier we start, the better. Don't make excuses. You only need about 30 minutes three days a week. Try to get five minutes of warm-up, ten minutes of total body strength training,

[00:06:18] and fifteen minutes of cardiovascular work. The bottom line. Don't walk around in a dying body. We would never treat our cars the way we treat our bodies. Imagine never changing the oil, using the cheapest possible gas, and driving until the tires are bald. Unfortunately, this is the way we treat our bodies. The only problem is that we can't buy a new body after we ruin the old one. The damage may be irreversible. If the damage is reversible, we need to reverse it

[00:06:48] with nutrition and exercise instead of drugs. Exercise is one of the most powerful wellness drugs on the planet. It's just difficult to take. Try taking a good dose of exercise three times a week, and you might be able to throw away the Lipitor and the blood pressure medicine. You just listened to the posts titled What's Your Limit Break? by Roger Lawson and Guest Post Most People Are Dead at 35 by Michael Boyle, both with

I want to talk a bit more about the second post written by Michael Boyle. Michael mentioned that the harm we may end up causing our body by not taking care of it

[00:09:17] could end up becoming irreversible. And I'll give you an example. Right now, in the United States, type 2 diabetes is one of the most commonly diagnosed diseases. It used to be considered a disease of adulthood, but not anymore. More often, we're seeing young children being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Now, this isn't due to a change in our genetics. Instead, the most likely contributor is overweight and obesity. And once an official type 2 diabetes diagnosis has been made by a physician,

[00:09:47] it's irreversible. This diagnosis is permanent. But here's the good news. Many times, type 2 diabetes can be controlled to the point where it seems like it's no longer there. And in some cases, without medication. How is that possible, you ask? Well, we already know the answer through lifestyle like diet and exercise. So even for those with a chronic disease diagnosis, like type 2 diabetes, incorporating more nutritious foods and regular exercise

[00:10:16] will likely improve their condition and maybe even make it seem like it's gone altogether. And so, as Michael said in the second post, don't wait another day to start. Start today. Alright, but that'll do it for me for today. Thank you so much for listening. Thank you so much for being a follower or a subscriber of the show. I hope you have a great rest of your day and of course, I'll see you back here tomorrow where optimal life awaits.
