[00:01:27] Upping Your Vibe, by Kathy Robinson of athenawellness.com

[00:01:32] We've all felt it.

[00:01:34] Someone walks into a room and the energy shifts.

[00:01:37] Perhaps that person brings a sense of heaviness or tension

[00:01:41] or an uplifting feeling that elevates the mood and makes everyone smile.

[00:01:45] Isn't it interesting that we can feel stressed around some people but good around others?

[00:01:51] We carry this energetic residue and can emit it ourselves.

[00:01:55] This is because we're made of energy in mind, body, and spirit.

[00:01:59] So what we feel when we're around others turns into how we feel.

[00:02:04] Energy is a vibration that travels in waves, attracting like energy.

[00:02:09] If our energy is low, we may attract poor health, stress, moodiness,

[00:02:14] tension, anxiety, relationship challenges, complaints,

[00:02:19] the feeling that nothing is going right.

[00:02:21] We can get stuck in this downward spiral and struggle our way through difficult times.

[00:02:26] Negativity is contagious with the ability to infect and influence the behavior of others.

[00:02:32] When our energy is elevated, we may experience overall wellness,

[00:02:36] positive outcomes, helpful and supportive people, high energy,

[00:02:41] the ability to handle challenges in stride, gratitude, creativity, flow,

[00:02:46] inner peace and happiness, laughter and joy.

[00:02:50] When we're in a great mood, everything seems to go our way.

[00:02:54] People smile and treat us well.

[00:02:56] Traffic lights turn green as we approach and synchronicities that seem to unfold like magic.

[00:03:01] This is an upward spiral that we can ride indefinitely.

[00:03:06] Creating positive energy is a skill, a muscle we can exercise and get stronger.

[00:03:12] The best way I know is through supportive wellness practices,

[00:03:15] along with loving ourselves and connecting to divine energy to boost our positive energy supply.

[00:03:22] Surrounding ourselves with positive messages and reminders also go a long way.

[00:03:26] Gratitude for the day, for our life, for our loved ones, for ourselves,

[00:03:32] for the blessings we have all fill the tank and uplift the spirit.

[00:03:37] Why is keeping our vibe high important?

[00:03:40] Studies have shown that positive thinking leads to good health and life success.

[00:03:46] But optimism and positive thinking are not about focusing only on the good.

[00:03:50] It's not about ignoring the negative or avoiding life challenges.

[00:03:54] Actually, it's a tool to calmly face everything that life brings.

[00:03:59] The joys, the challenges, the highs and the lows.

[00:04:03] Keeps us out of fight or flight reaction and centers us in our own power to handle whatever comes our way.

[00:04:11] Now that sounds wonderful in theory, but in practice we all come up against negativity from time to time.

[00:04:17] How do we become aware of negativity and work with it without dwelling in it?

[00:04:22] I suggest a three-step process to handle negativity.

[00:04:26] Awareness, reframing, and releasing.

[00:04:30] Here's how it works.

[00:04:32] Number one, awareness.

[00:04:35] Actively scan your thoughts, words and actions for negative attitudes, expressions and counterproductive behaviors.

[00:04:43] Can you recognize where the flow of life feels restricted or your body feels tense?

[00:04:48] Those are signs of fear and negativity.

[00:04:51] Allow those feelings to be there and honor the fact that something feels off.

[00:04:56] It's a signal to look deeper.

[00:04:58] If this is new to you, a great place to start becoming aware is in your self-talk.

[00:05:02] The things you say to yourself and in what you say to others.

[00:05:06] Note whenever you use a tone that's critical, judgmental or blaming and pessimistic words such as can't, won't, hate, give up or never.

[00:05:17] The act of noticing is the first step in amending behavior.

[00:05:21] Number two, reframing.

[00:05:24] The word reframe is defined as to express words, concepts or plans differently such as I reframed my opinion, meaning I expressed it in a different manner.

[00:05:35] This doesn't mean there won't be failure or disappointment, but reframing the situation as a lesson for growth can be helpful,

[00:05:43] especially if you can get to a place where you believe that all experiences work out for your greatest good.

[00:05:49] Visualize best-case scenarios. What can go right?

[00:05:53] That's the kind of thinking that can take us from problems to solutions.

[00:05:57] What's interesting about reframing is it actually has impact on our physical bodies.

[00:06:03] For example, you may be exploring a significant life change and every time you envision making the change, you may feel clutched by fear.

[00:06:11] You can acknowledge the fear while finding ways to think of past successes and times of resilience you can apply to this current situation.

[00:06:19] Number three, releasing.

[00:06:22] The Oxford Dictionary defines the word releasing as allow or enable to escape from confinement, to set free.

[00:06:30] I love this definition. I get a sense of birds in flight and a lightness of being.

[00:06:36] That's what you're looking for in this step, to identify the things you're consciously or subconsciously carrying around that no longer serve.

[00:06:44] Once you do, you can either let them go or find a way to emotionally detach from them.

[00:06:50] The energetics of emotions such as disappointment, hurt, pain, shame and guilt along with the need to forgive others and yourself carry weight.

[00:07:01] What are you lugging around these days that may be depleting your energy? Try setting it down. You can always pick it up again.

[00:07:08] But my sense is that once you feel what it's like to not carry it, you'll probably choose to travel lighter.

[00:07:15] Both energy awareness and positivity are wellness tools that can transform pessimism into optimism.

[00:07:23] The glass may be half empty, but it's also half full.

[00:07:32] You just listened to the post titled Upping Your Vibe by Kathy Robinson of AthenaWellness.com and I'll be right back with my commentary.

[00:07:41] Wyndham Hotels and Resorts makes travel possible for all.

[00:07:45] Whether it's the long haulers looking for a great cup of coffee, a roomier rest for the on-a-whim road trippers, or a place to make summer memories with the whole family.

[00:07:55] No matter who you are, where you're going, or why, with 24 trusted brands to choose from like La Quinta, Days Inn, and Super 8, your Wyndham is waiting.

[00:08:10] Think it to Kathy. How true is that? That when someone walks into the room, the entire energy can transform?

[00:08:17] Even a group of like 10 people, whatever was happening before, can and most certainly will be shifted by the next person that enters the room.

[00:08:26] And I don't think any of us want to be the person that brings everything down.

[00:08:30] It's okay to be shy, reserved, and not the life of the party.

[00:08:34] That's not the type of energy Kathy is talking about in this post, but really just being a positive influence.

[00:08:40] And now I may sound like a broken record here if you're a long-time listener, but whenever awareness is brought up or mentions of scanning our thoughts and words,

[00:08:49] I have to mention that this is pretty much a practice of meditation in some form.

[00:08:55] It might not be formal sitting meditation, but watching your thoughts is meditation.

[00:09:00] And doing it a bit more formally can go a long way to improve awareness.

[00:09:05] To me, meditation is like a gym workout for your brain to boost awareness and concentration or mindfulness.

[00:09:13] So if you've been on the fence to try it and could use some more awareness of your thoughts and how they quickly turn into emotion or reactions,

[00:09:21] meditation could be for you. If not, no worries. You could try journaling or simply just trying to remind yourself.

[00:09:29] And hopefully something like this podcast can help with that.

[00:09:32] Last thing I wanted to mention was about other people.

[00:09:35] While I agree that these ideas of awareness, reframing, and releasing can all help us become more positive on our own,

[00:09:43] another simple trick is to fix your environment.

[00:09:47] This works when building habits as well, as my brother talks about on Optimal Health Daily.

[00:09:52] It's a bit of a life hack if you want to call it that.

[00:09:55] If you change your environment, that forces you to work within that changed environment.

[00:10:00] And that applies to our social circles as well.

[00:10:03] Surround yourself with very positive, uplifting people, and chances are you'll find yourself moving in that direction.

[00:10:10] Why not make it easier on yourself if you can?

[00:10:13] So think about how you might be able to up your vibe as Kathy said today.

[00:10:17] Have a great rest of your day and I'll see you tomorrow, where your optimal life awaits.
