[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I have a more rare special guest for you today, Calista Tee. She has a very unique story of being thrown out of a car. Doctors saying she wouldn't be able to live independently even, but actually recovering and luckily here to talk about it.
[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And having survived that accident, she brings awareness to the importance of taking an active approach in changing your outcome.
[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And you can find her on Instagram or TikTok at Calista Tee.
[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: For now, let's get right to it and start optimizing your life.
[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Creating Fulfilling Opportunities by Calista Tee.
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_00]: When I was first approached about hosting a workshop for a business club, I was honestly a little scared and definitely not ready to give a speech to so many of our members.
[00:01:37] [SPEAKER_00]: However, a quick peek in my journal would reveal a commitment I've made last year to say yes to opportunities that align with my value and add to me as a person.
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Because honestly, you're never really ready to do anything.
[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Tony Robbins famously said,
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead of focusing on what we're not getting, focus on what we're not giving.
[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: The seemingly simple statement made a 180 degree shift in the way I think.
[00:02:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It made me realize not all pies are sliced equally.
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: We may extend our best effort to slice them perfectly, but the feelings, like ourselves, are usually messy.
[00:02:13] [SPEAKER_00]: This is especially common when we're applying to jobs.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: We know we're good enough, we have the qualifications, we really do care about the company's mission, but we never get a call back.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: In an attempt to feel better about ourselves, we blame the applicant tracking system for filtering our resumes out,
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: or the recruiter for not reading the cover letter that we poured our heart and soul into.
[00:02:34] [SPEAKER_00]: What if we stopped pushing the blame on others and started thinking about what we're not giving them?
[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: How can we turn this story around to create situations for us to be the best versions of ourselves?
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Number one, creativity.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: What's the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word creativity?
[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Patterns, texture, watercolor?
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Being creative is not entirely exclusive to artists.
[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: If you take a full spin on where you are currently standing, you'll see that creativity surrounds us.
[00:03:05] [SPEAKER_00]: You hold the power to create.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_00]: But first, you have to tread the fine lines of creation and consumption carefully.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: This is no stranger to all of us.
[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_00]: We consume massive amounts of content from Netflix to YouTube videos, blogs, podcasts, and more for up to 10.5 hours per day.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're awake for 17 hours, that's more than 50% of your day spent on consumption.
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_00]: However, in contrast with what the anti-media outlets will tell you, consumption doesn't necessarily make you an unproductive person.
[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_00]: In fact, consumption is imperative to the creative process.
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: It fuels the creation of ideas.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: But what's a good ratio?
[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The great builder of an active consumption bucket is the act of running things through before your inspiration slips.
[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_00]: The trick?
[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: To consume consciously, healthily, and intentionally.
[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Think about how you can apply it to your creative process.
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Start a conversation with someone sitting next to you about the topic.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Or run a marketing campaign based on the ideas you extracted from the experience.
[00:04:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Number two, the good ratio.
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Brad Stolberg, the co-author of Peak Performance, suggests netting out a 33-33-33 breakdown
[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_00]: among consumption, thinking and connecting ideas, and creation.
[00:04:19] [SPEAKER_00]: He emphasized the importance to look at these activities in a bigger picture.
[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead of asking ourselves, how much have we created today?
[00:04:27] [SPEAKER_00]: We allow ourselves to traverse the range of our creative journeys over a month or a year.
[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Just like the art of making pies, there will always be periods where we allocate a huge slice of time
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_00]: to doing research on the best flavor pairings and pie crusting techniques,
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_00]: and using what remains to put them into practice and ultimately bake them to perfection.
[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Number three, realize we have it in ourselves too.
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: We all have rolled our eyes when someone we aspire to be says,
[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_00]: if I can do it, you can too.
[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_00]: As much as I hate to admit it, they are absolutely right.
[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Having them speak to us through different mediums
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: doesn't mean they are any more or less than what we're capable of.
[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Some of us prefer to remain behind the scenes,
[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_00]: while a select few enjoy basking in the limelight.
[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Some individuals give good financial insights,
[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_00]: while others give better fashion advice.
[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_00]: No matter what role we play,
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_00]: we harness our knowledge and power differently
[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_00]: to provide certain values for others.
[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Now, what do you have to offer that you're not giving yet?
[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Number four, anticipate the fall.
[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_00]: One of the lessons drilled in our early stage of life
[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_00]: is that both failing and falling is embarrassing,
[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_00]: especially in public.
[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: However, the fear of failing, or falling for that matter,
[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_00]: might just be the element that is holding us back
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_00]: from what we're truly capable of.
[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_00]: When we're scared, we find ourselves procrastinating
[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_00]: and weak to fight for what's to come.
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_00]: As a result, we start believing that we simply do not have what it takes
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_00]: to get the job done.
[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: A good way to tackle an unfamiliar or uncomfortable situation
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_00]: is, on the contrary, to anticipate the fall.
[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_00]: What's the worst case scenario?
[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Map out the possibilities, research ways to tackle them,
[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_00]: recite it in your head,
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: and take a step through the door confidently.
[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Even if you find yourself landing on shaky grounds,
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_00]: you'll see that it actually isn't that bad.
[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_00]: This process helps solidify our sense of self-assurance
[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_00]: that we find only within ourselves.
[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It takes our suffocating need for external validation down a notch.
[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_00]: By believing you have the skill set and tenacity
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_00]: to work on something otherwise alien to you,
[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: it primes you with the fact that you now know
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_00]: you can do whatever you set your mind to.
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Number five, be, do, have.
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: To put it in a more tangible context,
[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_00]: imagine a case study for yourself.
[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_00]: In order to create the best possible opportunities,
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_00]: we sometimes have to act the part.
[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Consider your, number one, look.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_00]: What is a distinct feature about you?
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: What do you want to be known for?
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: You can start off by listing down the compliments
[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: you get most often.
[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Number two, tone.
[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_00]: How do you speak to people?
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: What are the words you frequently use?
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Are you straightforward in your approach?
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Motherly or soft?
[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Number three, passion.
[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_00]: What do you usually look forward to working on
[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_00]: when you're not working?
[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Number four, skills.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: What value do you provide for others?
[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_00]: How do you make others feel?
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Number five, mantra.
[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: What's the main message you'd like to convey
[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_00]: through your presence?
[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_00]: What's your story?
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Next, think of someone who can hold you accountable.
[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Nothing shrivels an effort to developing oneself
[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_00]: more than a partner that doesn't truly believe
[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_00]: in what you're working on.
[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, find someone you can trust
[00:07:45] [SPEAKER_00]: to put you in your place when you need to.
[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_00]: This is arguably the most beautiful part of the process.
[00:07:50] [SPEAKER_00]: You can fall freely knowing that your failure
[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_00]: doesn't make your forthcoming success any lesser.
[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_00]: With an extra pair of hands guiding you,
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_00]: it'll only help you bounce back even stronger.
[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Through the effort of developing yourself
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: professionally and personally,
[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_00]: you'll find that the more you show up,
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: the less intimidated you will be.
[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Your archive of work will stand stronger
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and more doors will be left ajar or wide open for you.
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Opportunities don't often knock twice,
[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_00]: and when they do,
[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I hope you'll find the courage in yourself
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_00]: to say yes to them.
[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Send particular care towards the areas
[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_00]: you want to work on most
[00:08:25] [SPEAKER_00]: and the values you seek to provide
[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_00]: because, quote,
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_00]: You create opportunities by performing,
[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_00]: not complaining,
[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_00]: says Muriel Siebert.
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: You just listened to the post titled
[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Creating Fulfilling Opportunities by Calista T,
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_00]: and I'll be right back with my commentary.
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_00]: The holidays can really strain your wallet.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_00]: We've all been there, me included.
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It could take months to rebuild those savings,
[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_00]: but holiday spending doesn't have to derail
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_00]: your financial progress.
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_00]: With Chime, you can actually stay ahead of your expenses.
[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I discovered their spot me feature
[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_00]: when I nearly overdrafted buying last minute gifts.
[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead of getting hit with a $35 fee
[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_00]: like my old bank would charge,
[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Chime spotted me up to $200 with zero fees.
[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Plus, with no monthly fees and early direct deposit access,
[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: you're set up to maintain healthy finances year-round.
[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Enjoy the holidays
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_00]: while keeping your financial goals on track with Chime.
[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Open your account in two minutes at chime.com slash old.
[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_00]: That's chime.com slash OLD.
[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Chime feels like progress.
[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Banking services and debit card provided
[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_00]: by the Bancorp Bank, N.A., or Stride Bank, N.A.,
[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_00]: members FDIC.
[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Spot Me eligibility requirements and overdraft limits apply.
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Direct deposit timing depends on submission of payment file.
[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Boots are available to eligible Chime members
[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_00]: enrolled in Spot Me and are subject to monthly limits.
[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Fees apply at out-of-network ATMs and for OTC withdrawals.
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you again to Calista T for the post.
[00:09:59] [SPEAKER_00]: The anticipating of the fall is something I definitely relate to.
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I usually ask that to myself, my friends,
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: business partner, pretty much anyone
[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_00]: when they're stressed about something or afraid.
[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes the answer is actually scary.
[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Like if you're gonna go hang gliding,
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: what's the worst that can happen?
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, you can die.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_00]: That's a real thing.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_00]: So it's not always a question to lighten the situation,
[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: but to actually really assess it openly, which is nice.
[00:10:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And definitely agree about the accountability partner too
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: that she mentioned.
[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It's super helpful.
[00:10:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Keeps things in the front of your mind.
[00:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: That's all I have for you today.
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll leave it there.
[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Have a great rest of your day and I'll be back tomorrow
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_00]: where your optimal life awaits.
