[00:00:00] This is Optimal Living Daily, Four Steps to Building a Better Future For Yourself AND Go Be Great – A Mindset Map For Growth

[00:00:10] Both by Bret Gornik and Jason Loebig of LiveBetterCo.org

[00:00:14] And I'm Justin Malik, the guy that reads to you every single day of the year, including weekends and holidays, to help you live a more meaningful and positive life

[00:00:21] And I have two posts today, both from Bret and Jason of LiveBetterCo

[00:00:26] So with that, let's get right to the posts as we optimize your life

[00:00:35] Four Steps to Building a Better Future For Yourself by Bret Gornik and Jason Loebig of LiveBetterCo.org

[00:00:43] First, this isn't a fluff piece on your future

[00:00:47] Hopefully it's evident by now that we don't do anything to motivate our community without the strategies, grit and perseverance to back it up

[00:00:55] You've heard us say, best day ever, so many times that it gets redundant to the point of being ridiculous

[00:01:02] But that's exactly the point

[00:01:04] It is consistently building the best day ever so that you may repeat it

[00:01:10] It's choosing optimism over pessimism because your thoughts, behaviors and actions are yours to make

[00:01:17] The goal is to build a better future, one best day at a time

[00:01:22] Our current climate, in so many more ways than one, is volatile

[00:01:27] We feel like life is out of our control

[00:01:29] Our new normal still doesn't feel normal at all and maybe it's a present that we don't like very much

[00:01:35] We're wishing things would return back to the way they were or that things will be different tomorrow

[00:01:40] We're here to tell you that some of them can be should you choose for them to change

[00:01:47] Four steps to build a better future

[00:01:50] The following is a quick list of pieces of advice and food for thought

[00:01:55] Number one, make the next best choice available

[00:01:59] We like to frame this statement in the context of nutrition when we're speaking about mindful eating

[00:02:04] We know you won't always eat the healthiest food available to you

[00:02:08] However, you can always get back on track by making the next best choice available

[00:02:14] You can dive deeper into this statement when thinking about finding growth in anything

[00:02:19] Outcomes will not always be positive

[00:02:22] How will you respond?

[00:02:24] Number two, reverse engineer your big goal to actions you can take today

[00:02:30] Why do new year's resolutions fail for most people?

[00:02:33] When people get drunk on december 31st and wake up hungover

[00:02:36] Which makes it extremely difficult to find motivation on the very first day they believe their life will change

[00:02:44] Alcohol notwithstanding

[00:02:46] Usually it boils down to a lack of micro focus

[00:02:49] If you want to run a marathon in six months, what run are you planning to do today?

[00:02:54] This must be reverse engineered i.e work backwards

[00:02:58] To figure out benchmarks along the way which eventually give you a daily goal or plan

[00:03:04] Number three

[00:03:06] What challenges are you currently facing or that may arise in the future?

[00:03:10] If a bright future was easy

[00:03:13] Everyone would have one

[00:03:14] The choice he must be willing to make is the one to work through the difficult times to earn the peaceful and fruitful times

[00:03:22] Sacrifices must be made

[00:03:24] Resilience must be developed

[00:03:25] The trick is to predict and prepare for some of those challenges right now

[00:03:31] Are they environmental?

[00:03:32] Are they personal and individual to you?

[00:03:35] These are great questions to discuss with a coach or mentor

[00:03:39] And number four

[00:03:41] Consider how you measure success

[00:03:43] It isn't all about money

[00:03:45] There are plenty of rich people who are miserable

[00:03:47] In fact money can be blinding and distracting in a sense that you might do things for money that really don't build the future you want

[00:03:56] Creating monetary wealth can certainly be a value you hold

[00:03:59] But it's not the only way to keep score as many people quickly figure out after college

[00:04:05] What other things do you value that may contribute towards a better future?

[00:04:10] We'll say it again

[00:04:11] It is consistently building the best day ever so that you may repeat it

[00:04:15] It is choosing optimism over pessimism because your thoughts behaviors and actions are yours to make

[00:04:22] The goal is to build a better future one best day at a time

[00:04:31] Go be great a mindset map for growth by brett gornick and jason lobig of livebetterco.org

[00:04:39] As cliche as it is

[00:04:41] Re-asking yourself. What do you want to be when you grow up?

[00:04:44] It's still a very valid question

[00:04:46] Regardless of whether you're eight or eighty hearing this

[00:04:50] F. Scott Fitzgerald has one of our favorite quotes on the subject

[00:04:54] For what it's worth it's never too late to be whoever you want to be

[00:04:58] I hope you live a life you're proud of and if you find that you're not

[00:05:02] I hope you have the strength to start over end quote

[00:05:05] In our business we find the process of chasing after fun goals with vigor and passion allows for the process of constant growth and iteration

[00:05:14] To take place

[00:05:16] We pull lessons learned and apply them to our next thing

[00:05:19] Whether that's business related or a race we're trying to run

[00:05:24] Go be great

[00:05:26] There's a catch-all to this repeatable process go be great

[00:05:30] Applying discipline effort and a relentless attitude to all your pursuits in life

[00:05:35] Because how you do anything is how you do everything

[00:05:39] Pays dividends

[00:05:40] We seem to have an excess focus on trying to make money from things when money tends to follow success built on effort

[00:05:47] You know what this means for you?

[00:05:49] Only you know your capabilities

[00:05:52] Only you know truly what you want in life

[00:05:55] That means it's on you to make that happen from the environment you put yourself in to

[00:06:00] The people in your life to the incentives you put in place to drive you towards success

[00:06:06] Steve martin also has a wonderful quote on the matter

[00:06:10] Be so good they can't ignore you end quote

[00:06:14] We think about this often but not in terms of showmanship

[00:06:17] We think about it in terms of helpfulness resourcefulness and our willingness to give

[00:06:22] How can you help someone so deeply that they simply cannot ignore your contributions

[00:06:27] Find you irreplaceable to their own success

[00:06:31] And therefore cement your place in this collective success

[00:06:35] It feels good to be great

[00:06:37] It won't always mean winning now, but it will always mean driving forward with that resilience that you're capable of winning in the future

[00:06:45] Be passionate demand excellence

[00:06:49] Go be great

[00:06:50] Have the best day ever

[00:06:56] You just listened to the posts titled four steps to building a better future for yourself

[00:07:01] And go be great a mindset map for growth both by ret gornick and jason lobig of livebetterco.org

[00:07:09] And i'll be right back with my commentary

[00:07:11] Look i'm sure there's someone in all our circles who had to dip into their emergency savings just to cover their holiday shopping

[00:07:17] It's like a post holiday hangover

[00:08:14] Atms and for otc withdrawals

[00:08:17] Thank you to brett and jason

[00:08:18] They mentioned a couple of things that reminded me of this podcast or things we've heard recently

[00:08:24] First when they talked about the challenges we're facing it reminded me of a mark manson article

[00:08:29] I narrated a little while back titled the most important question of your life

[00:08:34] Which if i'm remembering correctly the question was something like

[00:08:38] What pain are you willing to endure?

[00:08:40] Because we need some pain and struggle to grow

[00:08:44] But when we're constantly seeking comfort and trying to avoid pain that makes growth and goals and so on pretty difficult

[00:08:52] So what challenges are we willing to have in order to create a better life for ourselves?

[00:08:58] Maybe it's not the challenge of doing uphill sprints

[00:09:03] But instead it's the pain of saying no to a chocolate cake dessert and choosing a better option

[00:09:09] We have to find the challenges that work for us because we're all different

[00:09:14] And when they mention how they talk about having the best day ever

[00:09:17] But it's about doing this consistently day in and day out

[00:09:21] That's exactly what this podcast was created to do

[00:09:23] My business partner and I talked about how having this podcast nice and short so we can do it daily

[00:09:29] It'll hopefully boost success for everyone because then it's not heard and forgotten for a week or two

[00:09:36] But there's that daily touch point. So we're consistently making progress and building on top of it

[00:09:42] I hope this podcast has done that for you

[00:09:44] Or if you're new here and this is your first episode you're listening to

[00:09:47] Hopefully you're able to stick around and feel the difference after some time

[00:09:52] I'll leave it there for today to keep this on the shorter side relatively speaking

[00:09:56] Thank you for being here and i'll see you tomorrow as usual where your optimal life awaits
