Quotes to ponder:
“The greatest form of maturity is at harvest time. This is when we must learn how to reap without complaint if the amounts are small and how to reap without apology if the amounts are big.”
“It’s better to be an example of someone living a powerful life than to live small in order to make other people feel comfortable around you.”
“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.”

[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: This is Optimal Living Daily, Responsibility, Not Apologizing When You Succeed or Complaining When You Fail by Benjamin Hardy of BenjaminHardy.com and I'm Justin Malik, your very own personal narrator.
[00:00:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Hello old friend, not me calling you old, old stands for Optimal Living Daily and this is where I read articles to you, the best I can find and get permission from, so that you can have a little dose of positivity, inspiration, motivation or happiness each and every day.
[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So that was to get right to another post and start optimizing your life.
[00:00:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Responsibility, Not Apologizing When You Succeed or Complaining When You Fail by Benjamin Hardy of BenjaminHardy.com
[00:00:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Quote,
[00:00:49] [SPEAKER_00]: The greatest form of maturity is at harvest time. This is when we must learn how to reap without complaint if the amounts are small and how to reap without apology if the amounts are big.
[00:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Jim Rohn,
[00:01:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't apologize when you succeed. Don't complain or blame when you fail. Completely own and take responsibility for what you've attracted into your life.
[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Said Dr. Stephen R. Covey, quote,
[00:01:15] [SPEAKER_00]: We control our actions, but the consequences that flow from those actions are controlled by principles. End quote.
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_00]: You cannot change your situation until you own that you've contributed to your situation.
[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: When you take responsibility for what is happening in your life, you're no longer the victim of circumstances.
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_00]: You no longer have to be a reactive object being acted upon by your environment.
[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, you can proactively act as an agent who impacts and changes your circumstances.
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't apologize for success.
[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: You should only apologize if you've done something wrong.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Apologies only make sense if you plan to never do something again.
[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: When you've succeeded, you have no reason to apologize.
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Of course, you don't need to flaunt your rewards or harvest.
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: But you absolutely can and should own how you've been living and own what you're learning.
[00:02:10] [SPEAKER_00]: All the while, remain humble to the fact that self-made is an illusion.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_00]: You've taken responsibility and you will continue to take 100% responsibility.
[00:02:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yet, at the same time, you know you are nothing without the help and grace of others.
[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Therefore, you remain deeply grateful and humble.
[00:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: This humility and gratitude is your strength.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_00]: But it certainly doesn't cause you to act smaller than you really are.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: That is a strange form of hypocrisy that is just as bad as pretending to be better than you really are.
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't lower yourself, your standards, or your results to make other people feel comfortable for their lack of progress.
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, have candid conversations where all can learn from each other.
[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Dan Sullivan, the founder of Strategic Coach, has said,
[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_00]: It's better to be an example of someone living a powerful life than to live small in order to make other people feel comfortable around you.
[00:03:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't attach your identity to outcomes.
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead, attach your identity to your why and to your behaviors, those things you can control.
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Principles govern outcomes.
[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_00]: You govern your behaviors and you define your why.
[00:03:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Said Jim Rohn,
[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_00]: When you know what you want and want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.
[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: End quote.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: You start with reasons.
[00:03:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And from those reasons, you select specific results you seek to achieve.
[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_00]: From those results, you develop processes or methods.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_00]: The methods are the means to the end and should never become the end in themselves.
[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: That's the problem with modern psychology.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_00]: The emphasis has shifted from people to process.
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Process matters, but only in the context of specific results you seek to achieve.
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_00]: You absolutely should seek outcomes.
[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_00]: The more specific the outcomes you seek, the more clear will be your goals.
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Having clear and timely goals is essential to success.
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_00]: If someone tells you not to seek or focus on outcomes, they're lying to you.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Said performance coach Tim Grover, quote,
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_00]: When you crave the end result, the hard work becomes irrelevant.
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_00]: End quote.
[00:04:21] [SPEAKER_00]: The more clear and compelling the desired outcome, the more inspired, relevant, and bold must become
[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_00]: your process.
[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Seeking outcomes is not the problem.
[00:04:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Attaching your identity to outcomes is the problem.
[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Because no matter how good or bad your outcomes have been in the past, you can't stay there.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Getting stuck in the past is how you throw away your future.
[00:04:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Hence, Dan Sullivan has said, quote,
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Always make your future bigger than your past.
[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_00]: End quote.
[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't complain for failure.
[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Lessons are repeated until they're learned.
[00:04:56] [SPEAKER_00]: When you fail, don't complain.
[00:04:59] [SPEAKER_00]: There's nothing good that will come out of it.
[00:05:00] [SPEAKER_00]: When you complain or blame, you immediately shut yourself off to learning.
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: You halt your own progress and will inevitably repeat the same blunder in the future.
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Failure is feedback.
[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Failure is what neuroscientists call prediction error, which is essential to learning.
[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_00]: You made a mistake, so learn from it.
[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Be happy about it.
[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_00]: You just stepped outside your small realm of understanding and now you have the opportunity
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: to expand your worldview.
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: If you allow this learning to sink in, you'll be empowered to create better outcomes in the future.
[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_00]: In the book, The Fifth Discipline, Peter Tsang said, quote,
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: It is tempting to think that just because one understands certain principles, one has learned about the discipline.
[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: This is a familiar trap of confusing intellectual understanding with learning.
[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Learning always involves new understandings and new behaviors.
[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Thinking and doing.
[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_00]: End quote.
[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: If your behavior isn't changing, then you're not learning.
[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_00]: True learning means you can produce a desired outcome.
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_00]: If you can't consistently produce the outcome you want, then you haven't learned.
[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_00]: According to brain scan studies, if you do not address a problem in 0.25 seconds after a mistake is made,
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_00]: you probably won't do anything about it.
[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_00]: You'll brush off the mistake and continue forward in the same manner you've been going.
[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_00]: You won't be learning from your experience and thus you'll continue moving into your future by recreating your past.
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: If instead you simply stop, address what just happened and continue forward from a higher plane,
[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_00]: you could then produce better outcomes in the future.
[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_00]: You don't have to live in your past.
[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_00]: This can only happen when you truly own when you've made a mistake.
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Rather than complaining for failures or blaming the bad weather or something else,
[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_00]: you learn from what is happening and adapt.
[00:06:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Charles Darwin has said,
[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives.
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: It is the one that is most adaptable to change.
[00:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: End quote.
[00:07:04] [SPEAKER_00]: To adapt is to learn.
[00:07:06] [SPEAKER_00]: The quicker you adapt, the better you'll live.
[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter what happens to you.
[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It matters how you respond.
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Without question, environmental influence matters.
[00:07:16] [SPEAKER_00]: But what matters more is what you do about it.
[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_00]: You can either continue living reactively as an object,
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: or you can adapt as an agent in new and better ways to change your environment.
[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Conclusion.
[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: You can learn your lessons.
[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Success is yours for the taking.
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_00]: You can succeed bigger than you can presently imagine.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Success begets success.
[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_00]: When you begin making huge leaps,
[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_00]: you open yourself to different worlds of possibility.
[00:07:44] [SPEAKER_00]: When you have momentum, confidence, and inspiration,
[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_00]: you begin taking on bigger and more powerful goals.
[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't apologize when you succeed.
[00:07:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't complain when you fail.
[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Don't attach your identity to outcomes.
[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_00]: But without question, seek very specific outcomes.
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Set smart goals.
[00:08:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Then get increasingly better at applying principles
[00:08:07] [SPEAKER_00]: and honing your process
[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_00]: so that you can consistently yield desired outcomes.
[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_00]: You just listened to the post titled,
[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Responsibility, Not Apologizing When You Succeed,
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_00]: or Complaining When You Fail,
[00:08:23] [SPEAKER_00]: by Benjamin Hardy of BenjaminHardy.com.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'll be right back with my commentary.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Look, I'm sure there's someone in all our circles
[00:08:30] [SPEAKER_00]: who had to dip into their emergency savings
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_00]: just to cover their holiday shopping.
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like a post-holiday hangover.
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But that's where Chime's innovative banking features come in.
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Imagine no monthly fees, eating away at your balance,
[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_00]: fee-free overdraft coverage up to $200,
[00:08:45] [SPEAKER_00]: and even getting your paycheck up to two days early
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: with direct deposit.
[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like having a financial safety net
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_00]: during the season of giving.
[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And members can even send each other boosts
[00:08:55] [SPEAKER_00]: to temporarily increase spot me limits.
[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like having friends in your financial corner.
[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Enjoy the holidays while keeping your financial goals
[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_00]: on track with Chime.

[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_00]: and overdraft limits apply.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Direct deposit timing depends on submission
[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_00]: of payment file.
[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Booths are available to eligible Chime members
[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_00]: enrolled in Spot me
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: and are subject to monthly limits.
[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Fees apply at out-of-network ATMs
[00:09:32] [SPEAKER_00]: and for OTC withdrawals.
[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you to Benjamin.
[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Asking why is really important
[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_00]: because as we heard in that great Jim Rohn quote,
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_00]: when you know what you want
[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: and want it bad enough,
[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_00]: you will find a way to get it.
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_00]: There are actually a bunch of great quotes in there.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure I'll use one of those
[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_00]: for the weekly newsletter,
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_00]: which by the way, if you're not on that,
[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_00]: you can get on that list for free
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_00]: at oldpodcast.com.
[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, I think it really is easy
[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: to feel uncomfortable
[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_00]: when we're hitting milestones
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_00]: and having successes
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_00]: because we don't want to be braggy or showy,
[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_00]: yet it's nice to get validation
[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_00]: of having done a good job.
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And yet we don't want others
[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_00]: to feel uncomfortable.
[00:10:15] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a balance.
[00:10:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think it's easy.
[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's why you often see people
[00:10:20] [SPEAKER_00]: who all of a sudden reach a different level,
[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_00]: find new friends or new circles.
[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Also why talking about money
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: is often seen as taboo.
[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It's an interesting predicament.
[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_00]: We don't often talk about it here,
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_00]: but it does come up here and there
[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_00]: on Optimal Finance Daily.
[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_00]: You can check out that podcast for more.
[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_00]: But I think the main takeaway here
[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_00]: is to definitely seek outcomes
[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and don't apologize for success
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_00]: or complain about failure,
[00:10:45] [SPEAKER_00]: but instead continue to learn,
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_00]: continue to grow,
[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and keep leveling up.
[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully this one was inspirational for you.
[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And with that,
[00:10:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I hope you're having an inspirational morning,
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_00]: afternoon, or evening,
[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_00]: whenever you're listening to this.
[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'll see you tomorrow
[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_00]: where your optimal life awaits.
