[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: This is Optimal Living Daily Episode 2912 5 Steps to Make Change Stick by Kerri Richardson of Kerri Richardson.com

[00:00:08] [SPEAKER_00]: and I'm Justin Malik, your very own personal narrator today and every day.

[00:00:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Meenarating means there are no interviews just a short podcast where we can both improve our lives one day at a time.

[00:00:20] [SPEAKER_00]: So if that lets get right to today's post and start optimizing your life,

[00:00:28] [SPEAKER_00]: 5 Steps to Make Change Stick by Kerri Richardson of Kerri Richardson.com

[00:00:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you ever feel like you're fighting an uphill battle when you try to make a change in your life?

[00:00:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I definitely do, so often it feels like one step forward, two or ten steps back.

[00:00:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Tell you and me gain some traction, here are five important things to remember.

[00:00:53] [SPEAKER_00]: 1. Clear Space to Welcome In The New

[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Before charging ahead with going after your goal, stop and evaluate if you have the space available in your life too welcome it in.

[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Is there anything standing in your way or occupying that part of your life already?

[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're bogged down with clutter, there's no room for your dreams to manifest

[00:01:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and when considering this, remember to consider all types of clutter, physical, spiritual, and emotional.

[00:01:21] [SPEAKER_00]: So let's say you're running a business and you're looking to increase your profits.

[00:01:25] [SPEAKER_00]: When was the last time you cleaned out your filing cabinet?

[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Looking for love? How often are you stalking your ex on social media?

[00:01:33] [SPEAKER_00]: If you don't create the space for change, it's not going to take it upon itself to squeeze its way into your life.

[00:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: If the idea of adding another client folder to your filing cabinet is aggravating because your hands

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: get cut up trying to shove new ones in there, you're energetically keeping business away.

[00:01:51] [SPEAKER_00]: If you're stalking your ex, sleeping under the same blankets you did as a couple, or being a

[00:01:56] [SPEAKER_00]: sounding board about his or her new relationship, they're taking up your relationship's seat

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and no new love wants to sit on their lap. Instead of pursuing new business leads,

[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: schedule a time in your calendar to clean out old files. Doing so is a strategic marketing move

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: often more effective than any sales pitch. Or arrange a pickup from a charitable organization

[00:02:18] [SPEAKER_00]: to give you a deadline to purge clothes, household items, books, CDs, DVDs etc.

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I did this recently with the Epilepsy Foundation. It took me less than five minutes

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: to initiate a pickup using their website scheduling tool. To clear the relationship area of your life,

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_00]: take 15 minutes to conduct a silent visualization and chord cutting ritual to finally say

[00:02:43] [SPEAKER_00]: anara to your ex and his or her energy. To do so, follow these simple steps. Find a place where

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: you won't be interrupted or distracted. Get comfortable and take a few deep cleansing breaths.

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Feel your feet on the floor when you're butt on the chair. Feel your shoulders relax with each

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: exhale. Repeat until you feel as centered as possible. With your eyes closed, picture a chord

[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: running between yourself and your ex or your father, your friend, your old boss,

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_00]: whomever it may be sitting in that seat. If you're having trouble seeing it, take a few more breaths.

[00:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And describe to yourself what the chord looks like, how long is it, how thick, what color is it?

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it dangly and loose or stiff and taught? What is the consistency like?

[00:03:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Once you have a good clear image in your head, now is when you want to cut the chord. You

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_00]: may choose to imagine the hand of God coming down and cutting it. Some like to call upon

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Archangel Michael to come with his sort of light to several the connection. Choose a symbol that

[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_00]: works for you. And once the cut is made, visualize the chords being sent up into a beam of light

[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_00]: to transition into love and peace. Now they've created the space to welcome in the new,

[00:04:03] [SPEAKER_00]: this time for some action. Number two, stupid small steps. We all know that trying to go from

[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_00]: no exercise to resolving to work out five days a week is a recipe for disaster. But what people

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: often forget is that any small action toward change, stirs up the energy and shows the universe

[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: that you're serious this time. As you think about these shifts you want to make,

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_00]: brainstorm the small steps you can start with. For example, if you want to improve your financial

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_00]: health, start by setting up a system to make bill paying easy. If that feels too big,

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: start by getting in the habit of sorting your mail as soon as you bring it into the house.

[00:04:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Recycling what can be discarded and organizing what needs your attention.

[00:04:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Either of these steps, put positive energy towards your goal of abundance.

[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_00]: If the action step you've come up with feels overwhelming or you find yourself avoiding it,

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_00]: it's likely an indication that it's simply still too big. Break it down even further.

[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes you'll need to break down the steps to what seems like a ridiculously small move,

[00:05:09] [SPEAKER_00]: like all these stupid small steps. It's all good, any action is good action.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And what's really cool is that these very small steps have a snowball effect. The more little moves

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_00]: you make, the faster the energy builds and the sooner you get into the flow.

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_00]: The more often you show up to your side of the universal dance, the sooner she steps back and

[00:05:32] [SPEAKER_00]: before you know it, you'll be tangling your way to success.

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Number three, see your resistance for what it is. When you find yourself coming up with all sorts

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: of convincing reasons why you can have just one cookie that you don't have time to start your

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_00]: meditation practice today or that you'll set aside tomorrow to look at your bills.

[00:05:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Remember that your fear's main goal is to keep you right where you are, even if the change

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_00]: you want to make is for the better. If it is something different, it's an automatic no for your fear.

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Instead of battling against this procrastination or resistance, see it for what it is, a scared

[00:06:10] [SPEAKER_00]: child. This young part of you simply needs reassurance that you're not running away in abandoning it

[00:06:16] [SPEAKER_00]: as you move toward change. Here she needs to know that you have every intention of taking

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: him or her along with you to a healthier, happier life and that you'll safely lead the way.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_00]: By partnering with your resistance, you can come together to form an incredibly powerful team.

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Number four, seek the right support. A key to success in making any kind of change is support.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Find a safe, encouraging and healthy person to support you. Cheer you on, hold you accountable

[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: and offer fresh insights. Be very selective when choosing this person or these people.

[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Some people in your life may not like the idea of you making a change as it becomes a mirror for them

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_00]: and highlights what they're not doing. You want someone who is in it for your highest good

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_00]: and can act as your mold when you're feeling a bit shaky. This person may be a friend,

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_00]: family member, therapists, coach, more sponsor. Just remember, choose wisely.

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Number five, revisit and revise. You may find that the goals you set previously aren't quite

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_00]: the right fit anymore. This is actually great progress as this realization alone speaks to

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_00]: forward movement in becoming more and more connected to who you are at a soul level.

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you've come to see that the vision you had was one you thought you should have instead of

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_00]: one that really matters to you. Great, revise your intentions and dreams and start from where you're at.

[00:07:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Just like seeing your resistance for what it is, this is an opportunity to practice loving

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_00]: kindness towards yourself and acknowledge the clarity that allowed you to realize a goal is no longer

[00:07:57] [SPEAKER_00]: for you while taking all of this into consideration, remember to be gentle on yourself.

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: No healthy and permanent change ever comes from a self-punitive place. The more you can be

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_00]: kind and compassionate towards yourself, the more easily change will happen. Finally, when you feel

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_00]: stuck in the mud, use this mantra question, what if this was easy? What would it look like?

[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And then answer it. This can often prompt creative thinking that your frustration would otherwise

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_00]: block. You just listen to the post titled five steps to make change stick by carry Richardson

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: of carry Richardson dot com. And take it a carry, I think these are great tips. One that we commonly

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_00]: hear is to pencil and time in our calendars, but you made a great point in the beginning. You have

[00:08:51] [SPEAKER_00]: to make space in the first place. Some of us probably most of us don't have empty calendars. Things

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_00]: are always happening and penciling some exercise in or some time to organize is basically

[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_00]: worthless if the day is already packed because we'll simply not do it. It's optional. We really

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: need to figure out ways to make it less optional, but again, have the space for it too.

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to making it a bit less optional, support it can definitely help that's the accountability

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: that we talk about pretty often. But also make it stupidly simple with small steps. That was a lot

[00:09:29] [SPEAKER_00]: of ss. Anyway, again, I think these are good ideas, but also think about what changes you've made

[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_00]: in the past that stuck. Why did they stick? What about changes you've attempted to make in the past?

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Why didn't those stick? Just thinking about that might point you in the direction of where to start.

[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_00]: But definitely do start this weekend, taking that first step is critical. Have a great weekend

[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_00]: if you're listening in real time and I'll catch you tomorrow, where you're optimal life. I'll wait.
