[00:01:10] [SPEAKER_00]: While your boss will live longer than you,

[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_00]: unless of course you take my advice by StellaGrizontofwopaah.com.

[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I just bought a new shoe rack from Bed Bath and Beyond and got so excited at the thought

[00:01:23] [SPEAKER_00]: of seeing my heels all in a row, so much so that I began to laugh at just how much this meant to me.

[00:01:29] [SPEAKER_00]: But then I harkin' back to what I learned in grad school and realized how this tidy endeavor

[00:01:34] [SPEAKER_00]: signifies much more than my mis-wanna be analy organizedness.

[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's actually representative of a life-threatening problem that faces everyone who has a boss.

[00:01:45] [SPEAKER_00]: What we're talking about here people has been the root of wars, of struggle,

[00:01:49] [SPEAKER_00]: of heartache, physical and emotional, and of premature death for as long as we can remember,

[00:01:55] [SPEAKER_00]: or at least since the famous 1967 Whitehall study proved it so.

[00:02:00] [SPEAKER_00]: What we're talking about here people is the desire for control.

[00:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: According to the two very famous studies Whitehall 1 and Whitehall 2,

[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: one's rank in class, status, or hierarchy at work, or in life, have a dramatic influence on life span.

[00:02:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Who do you think lives longer, a busy CEO or her secretary?

[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: I guess my post title gives it away but keep listening.

[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: According to the Whitehall studies which examined 18,000 male civil servants in 1967,

[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_00]: and then over 10,000 men and women 20 years later in a longitudinal study,

[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: it turns out that those in a lower rank have a morbidity rate of almost twice those

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_00]: who occupy higher level positions. The higher your position, the longer you're more likely to live.

[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Why? When the responsibilities of a CEO cause more stress which leads to spite

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_00]: cortisol levels, which leads to cardiovascular issues, you would think.

[00:02:58] [SPEAKER_00]: But actually the study found that the less control you feel you have over your lot in life,

[00:03:03] [SPEAKER_00]: the higher your level of stress. To be sure, other studies following this theorized that perhaps

[00:03:09] [SPEAKER_00]: is not so much control, but maybe the anticipation of not knowing what's next, same difference to me.

[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_00]: So how do you live longer or just as long as your boss?

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Number one, outsmart yourself. Except that you don't have control over the events in your life,

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_00]: because you really don't and that the only thing you can control is your reaction and thought

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_00]: in regards to events that you can't control. That actually gives you lots of control. In fact,

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_00]: it determines about 40% of your happiness. Outsmart the power struggle. Choose your response

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_00]: to things that come up. Number two, create pretend pockets. So maybe you can't control the fact

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_00]: that your company's biggest competitor just came up with a next best thing to slice bread

[00:03:55] [SPEAKER_00]: that your baby cries at night or that the train is late. You can't create pretend pockets of control.

[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Pretend pockets of control are little things that you do for yourself to make you feel like you

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_00]: actually have control in life. This could be making sure you get to the gym no matter what

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_00]: every morning or it can be eating healthy or it can be organizing your shoe closet.

[00:04:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Number three, accept it all, but create with intention. This means except whatever comes your way

[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: as information and an opportunity to create something new and better if what you got wasn't exactly

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_00]: what you wanted. For example, you thought he was the one, but getting dumped over lunch might

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_00]: mean he's not. Accept that. Learn from the information you gathered during the relationship

[00:04:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and continue to intend on finding love, but the kind that actually does x, y, and z.

[00:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: This also means forgiving yourself. Like if your pretend pocket is going to the gym every

[00:04:51] [SPEAKER_00]: morning and you don't make it this week, accept that other things got in the way and continue

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_00]: to intend on healthy lifestyle start going again tomorrow. Now that we're all worked up or at least

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I am, I'll have to write next about just how positive it is to be out of control sometimes.

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll save for later. The biggest predictor of your happiness by Stella Grizzont of woopa.com.

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey there, I'm writing you from Sunny Miami Beach on vacation with my family, my hubby,

[00:05:26] [SPEAKER_00]: lnore, my parents and inlaws, traveling with lnore my six-month-old daughter certainly isn't

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_00]: easy or restful and I think I'll need another vacay just to recover from this one. That said,

[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: even though I may be tired, it's weeks like these that fuel my overall happiness. In fact,

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_00]: according to research, that's just about true for everyone. According to John Kachopio,

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_00]: the author of Loneliness, Human Nature and the Need for Social Connection, it's our relationships

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_00]: that are the biggest and most critical predictor of our happiness. Above and beyond increased pay,

[00:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: success and even our health. So chew on this, since we tend to spend more time with the people

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_00]: we work with than our loved ones, ask yourself, how might I better connect with those I collaborate

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_00]: with each day? Here are a few instant ways to enhance your relationships at work,

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_00]: and your own happiness. Number one, instead of the standard, how are you? Ask, hey so what's been

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_00]: highlighted of your day so far? This may lead to a more meaningful conversation where you

[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: discover something new about one another. Number two, next time someone does a great job of

[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: oil just saying great job. Instead, point out what specifically you admire about their efforts.

[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_00]: For example, you presented with such confidence in ease, I like how you kept your slides simple

[00:06:46] [SPEAKER_00]: so I could just focus on your message. Number three, right and unexpected gratitude letter.

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_00]: If there is someone at work who you greatly appreciate, take the time to explicitly share how they

[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: impact you. This may very well be one of the most meaningful things either of you experience on the

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: job. It can be very powerful if heartfelt. You just listen to the post titled,

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Wire Boss will live longer than you unless of course you take my advice and the biggest predictor

[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_00]: of your happiness, both by Stella Grisant of vupa.com. Look around, smartwatches, wifi enabled

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_00]: They get a Stella and it totally was very true for me when I did an experiment of my own

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_00]: tracking my mood on a zero to 10 scale every single day for like a year or more and then writing

[00:08:49] [SPEAKER_00]: down short notes of what I actually did that day. When I looked back at the highest days, those

[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_00]: were the days spent with other people for most of the day, not the mostly alone days. The days spent

[00:09:01] [SPEAKER_00]: alone or mostly alone, raw was generally in the middle like five set of ten, or if I was sick

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_00]: then maybe a two but ignoring health issues. Basically they stayed average which is okay we can't

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: always have eight to nine and tens but to get that high in my experience you really need to enjoy

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_00]: other people's company. So take note of that today and this weekend I'll leave it there for

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_00]: today, hope you're having a great weekend and I'll be back tomorrow where you're optimal life, I'll wait.
