Do you struggle to say "no"? This walk is a practice session for your voice. We use the rhythm of our steps to visualize and rehearse setting firm, polite, and necessary boundaries in your personal or professional life. You are not just walking; you are building your personal resolve. Safety note: Keep your eyes open and stay aware of your surroundings. Your safety always comes first. Follow the audio only as far as it's safe to do so. **What you’ll explore:**

* The mental space required to clarify what you are willing and unwilling to accept.

* Practicing clear, calm communication in your own head before you have to say it out loud.

* How to release the guilt often associated with setting healthy boundaries.

**How to get the most out of this walk:**

* Visualize a specific situation where you need to set a boundary and rehearse your words clearly and calmly.

[00:00:00] Welcome to Step Into Calm, the walking meditation podcast where we quiet the busy mind and find a little peace, one step at a time. If you're not already moving, go ahead and start walking now at an easy, comfortable pace. Keep your eyes open and stay aware of the world around you as you listen. But before we begin, let's hear a quick word from our sponsors so the rest of your walk can stay calm and uninterrupted.

[00:00:30] We'll see you in just a moment.

[00:00:35] Hey there. Let's talk about a word a lot of us find surprisingly hard to say. The word, no. So many of us say yes when we really mean no. We overcommit, we take on too much just to avoid letting someone down. And we end up stretched thin, a little resentful, wondering why we agreed in the first place.

[00:01:24] Today, we're going to use this walk to practice. To mentally rehearse saying no to something. Take a moment and bring one thing to mind. Something you've been wanting to say no to. Maybe it's a favor someone asked. An invitation you don't want to accept. A commitment that's quietly draining you. You probably already know the one. It's likely the first one you're going to say no to.

[00:02:11] It's the first thing that popped into your head. Now, notice how it feels in your body when you picture saying yes to it. There might be a tightness, a heaviness, a quiet little sense of dread. Pay attention to that feeling because it's good information.

[00:03:16] That's a no inside you trying to get out. Every time you say no to one thing, you are saying yes to something else.

[00:04:16] Yes to your time. Yes to your energy. Yes to your own peace and quiet.

[00:04:24] So let's rehearse the actual words and let's keep them simple.

[00:05:02] You don't need a long, elaborate excuse. A clear, simple no is enough. Picture the person and try saying it just in your mind. No, I can't take that on right now.

[00:06:43] Notice you don't have to explain yourself to death. No is a complete sentence.

[00:06:49] Now, let's deal with the guilt because there's a good chance a little showed up.

[00:07:39] Disappointing someone is not the same thing as wronging them.

[00:08:20] You're allowed to have limits. You're allowed to protect your time and your energy.

[00:08:55] A boundary isn't you being difficult or mean. It's just you being honest about what you can and can't do.

[00:09:04] The people who truly respect you will respect your no.

[00:10:06] So picture yourself saying it one more time. Calm, kind, but firm.

[00:10:53] Feel how it sits with you. A little scary maybe, but also kind of freeing.

[00:11:20] As we come to a close, see if you can carry that resolve out of this walk with you. Maybe today is the day you actually say it.

[00:11:33] But you've got this and your no is allowed to take up space.

[00:12:04] Okay, that brings us to the end. Go set that boundary. We'll see you next time. Take good care.
