At some point recently, you caught yourself measuring your life against someone else's.

[00:01:17] You came up feeling like you're behind, or somehow not quite enough. If so, you're in good company. Because honestly, I do it too. We all do. Comparing ourselves to other people is just sort of built into us. So let's spend this walk gently stepping away from it.

[00:01:46] Here's the thing about comparison though. It's almost never a fair fight. Especially these days. We're comparing our regular, messy, behind the scenes life to everybody else's highlight reel. The handful of best moments they chose to show. It's not the full picture. Not even close.

[00:02:11] So keep walking at your own easy pace. Eyes open. And as you go, let's come back to the one thing the comparison game always makes us forget. Your own path. First, just notice. Has there been someone on your mind lately?

[00:02:40] Someone who seems further along? More successful? More put together? More put together? Further down the road than you?

[00:03:14] And notice how it actually feels when you stack yourself up against them. There's usually a tightness to it. A kind of heaviness. That quiet little voice saying, you should be further by now.

[00:03:30] You don't have to argue with that voice.

[00:04:01] Just see it for what it is. It's comparison. And it is not telling you the truth.

[00:04:36] Now, come back to your own two feet. Feel them meeting the ground one step at a time. This walk right here is yours. Nobody else is walking it.

[00:05:05] You're moving at your own pace on your own road. And that is exactly as it should be.

[00:05:38] And here's something really worth remembering. Someone else being further ahead on their road, it doesn't take a single thing away from you. Their journey was never yours to walk in the first place.

[00:06:22] You started where you started. With your own circumstances. Your own challenges. The things that only you have had to carry. Nobody else could have walked your exact path. And here you are, walking it.

[00:07:14] So instead of measuring yourself against them, let's measure against you. Think back to where you were a year ago. Or five years ago. I bet you've come further than you give yourself any credit for.

[00:08:02] That's the only comparison that's actually fair. You today against you back then. And on that one, you're doing just fine.

[00:08:46] Here's one more thing that helps me with this. When the comparing creeps in, I try to flip it toward gratitude instead. Just noticing what's already good in my own life right now. So as you walk, see if one or two things come to mind.

[00:09:16] Things that are yours. Things you'd really miss if they were suddenly gone.

[00:09:23] And look, I'll be honest.

[00:10:03] The comparison habit isn't going to vanish after one walk. It'll creep back in. That's okay. The whole practice is just catching it a little sooner. Noticing when you've started measuring again. And gently coming back to your own path. Your own pace.

[00:10:33] Your own walk.

[00:11:15] Your own pace. As we start to wrap up, see if you can take this with you. You're not behind. You're just on your own road. And it's heading exactly where it needs to go.

[00:11:44] The only pace you ever really have to keep is your own. Okay. That brings us to the end. Let your attention come back to your walk. And keep going at exactly your pace.

[00:12:12] You're right where you need to be. The following sentence is the beginning of the month. Three. Three. Four. Three.
