I eat a well formulated, whole foods ketogenic diet largely modeled on the Wahls Protocol. It has not only improved basically everything for me (hair/nails quality, energy level, cognitive function, lean muscle gains) and it cleared up my fatty liver and pre-diabetic diagnosis. My triglycerides are down massively and my HDL is much higher (LDL is slightly higher as well).
I agree that one can do an unhealthy version of a ketogenic diet just like with any other type of diet or lifestyle choice, but overall a ketogenic diet has been the most incredible dietary approach that I’ve ever adopted and I’ll definitely stay on it for life. It was a little difficult to start (my workouts for the first month were terrible) and I learned quickly that I need to be taking extra sea salt every single day, but aside for that it’s now incredibly easy. For someone who once had regular sweet cravings, the only sweets I ever eat now would be stevia in my bulletproof coffee. Even chocolate with 90% cacoa is a bit sweet for me which is bizarre since last year even 50% cacoa wasn’t near sweet enough.
